Default Nolan Finley: Why can't Bing and Council just get along.

    http://www.detnews.com/article/20110...just-get-along?

Without realizing it, Finley has indicated what a big part of the problem has been for this particular Mayor and Council, and that is the fact that the focus has been so much on the five new council members and not the body as a whole. When you court just five votes, it only takes one of those votes to stray to put you into the loss column.

Furthermore, because they try to vote together as much as possible, when you lose one of the three leaders [[Pugh, Brown or Jenkins) you tend to lose the other four new members in most cases. Meanwhile, ignoring the other four members of Council does the Mayor and the City a disservice. He has a better chance of reasoning with Kenyatta and Cockrel than any of the other Council Members. A fact that he is not taking advantage of.

IMHO, the new city council is doing a better job of pushing for reform and progress than Bing. Bing has been in office for two years, and he has not done nearly enough to root out corruption and push for real reform. Why did it take a city council report and a local media story to expose $200,000 in misused Human Services funds before Bing took action?

Bing is acting like a politican who wants to get re-elected. The only reason Bing appealed to me is he promised to make the hard decisions that he knew would probably make him a one term mayor. Detroit needs somebody willing to make those decisions knowing that in doing so he would upset so many people he probably would not get re-elected. Bing is now not willing to make those decisions. As a result Detroit must again settle for incremental change if that. Problem is Detroit doesn't have that kind of time any longer.

Finley comes through every few months with an article that is quite on point.

Bing is really approaching failure state, if he is not there already. People lauded him for not being the great schmoozola that Kwame was, and excused him for not getting out into the community.
Turns out that it isn't that he just isn't a media hound. He seems kind of like an asshole who doesn't know how to forge relationships. Also it comes to light once again that despite this country's love affair with millionares-turned-politicians, running a shitty automotive supplier does not translate into running a city.
Bing may be acting like a politician who wants to get relected, but it seems pretty clear to everyone but Bing that the voters do want the sweeping change that he is unwilling to make.
I am unclear as to why he kept so many of Kwame's people around.

Oh! Bing is still running the show. At least he doesn't through parties like KING KWAME. Bing is doing a fine job handling city issues. He knows public services are going to be cut because middle income folks are leaving the city to the suburbs. [[ what I'm looking at is Middle Income Black Detroiters and Poor/low-income Detroiters are being trapped in their ghettohoods for a long time.) The city council knows that cuts are going to be made and city unions have to pay the price. We Detroiters are going to have to suffer more DOOM and GLOOM cuts until middle income folks can come back to the to develop more homes and businesses.

But look at what Bing did to get Detroit back on its feet.

    1. He promised to have 3,000 abandon Detroit buildings to be demolished which he did.

    2. He lured lots of top businesses from the suburbs to Downtown Detroit [[ the result, we have Quicken Loans and Blue Cross and Blue Shield to Ren Cen.)

    3. New businesses and condos are coming to Downtown Detroit [[ The result we have David Brodrick Tower rehabbed into supercondos, Texas de Brazil Steakhouse, The shoppes of Kresge Building, New Pizza Slices stores, Jazz Convenient Store, Sky Bar and Lounge at The David Stott Building and many more.

Now Bing is facing the toughest challenge yet. To prevent Detroit to under Snyder's Corporation [[ as in recievership and to eliminate city government and coverting it to system run by Snyder's friends and families.) The city council and KING BING will have solve their budget issues before September 1st and they will do it even they have stay their City-County Building all night.

    WORD FROM THE STREET PROPHET

Becuase fixing Detroit takes action, not talk for Neda's sake.

Nolan Finley wrote something that I agree with. Damn! Maybe the Apocalypse isn't so far off into the future after all?

    In reference to Danny's post.

Item 1 isn't true. He's also counting homes that have been demolished by Wayne County. A trick that Kwame used when speaking of street resurfacing. Furthermore, the totality of that number is for a two year period, not one year. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Items 2 was initiated under Kwame and had been announced years ago.

Item 3 is pretty much the same as item 2 and still remains to be seen.

As far as Snyder's plans, they're Bing's plans as well. The changing of the state law to incorporate elected officials as Emergency Financial Managers [[EMF's) was done for the benefit, and at the urging, of Dave Bing.
