I don't care if they want to look at that type of stuff, but Im sure they all got Blackberrys and Iphones and it would be just as easy to access it on there using the cellular data plan instead of the schools internet.

What really surprises me is how quick they both where to resign over this. They must have had something on their computers they didn't want everyone to know about and though their resignations would end the case.

The kicker is that the un-principal was involved in dumping a coach for the very same thing:

News reports delicately refer to Mr. Divers downloads as "adult and inappropriate" which sounds like pix of adults without their clothes on doing the nasty. Why Mr Diver thought it was a good idea to use the School District internet connection to view these pix on his School District owned laptop, is a head shaker and worthy of disciplinary action.

But firing a guy for looking at boobs? If that is the reason a lot of people should be standing down at the MESC.

They must have been using some sorta 'proxy' to bypass the blocks. Many companies/ schools block social networking and other inappropriate sites.

And it appears they were not only looking at stuff but 'downloading' the material too. A basic 'history' cache search would have revealed visits to porn - but downloading photos onto a company computer was doubly stupid....

Hmm, if they can still get onto the internet by simply using another proxy setting or a remote connection, then their IT dept. needs some work. Our proxy is configured to deny internet access at ALL unless you use it and you need admin privileges to use remote connects.

Wonder if the school has a rogue wireless or he tethered his phone?

Agree though that in this day and age you should know IT sees everything you're doing online. He should be reprimanded for stupidity alone.

My students told me how to get around the "Access Denied" page. I wanted to show a short Youtube video [[school appropriate, mind you) and was denied. It wasn't until I mentioned my problem to the kids that they told me. I still had to jump through some hoops to actually get the video I wanted to show so downloading porn would not have been easy. I am sure this guy ran into the same issues and knew how to bypass the block.

Now, I do think the guy is just an idiot for looking at porn on a work computer and downloading it puts him into the category of "World's Dumbest...". I don't do anything on my DPS computers [[or my home computer, for that matter...I'm a prude, that I wouldn't want my grandmother to know I was viewing.

Grosse Pointe— The principal and assistant principal of Grosse Pointe South High School resigned Saturday after what district officials acknowledge was an investigation into their personal emails with inappropriate adult images.
In a statement released Saturday night by the district, Principal Allan Diver and Assistant Principal Brandon Slone were being investigated for violating the "Technology Acceptable Use" policy.
"We expect staff members, regardless of position, to demonstrate professional conduct in all matters, including use of the computer network," Thomas Harwood, assistant superintendent of Human Resources and Labor Relations, said in the statement released by the district.
"Personal emails of staff members must reflect the values and professional standards of our district as noted in our Acceptable Use policies," Harwood said.

I love how the salaciousness has been dialed back since this broke over the weekend.. It went from Top GP school officials FIRED for massive porn stashes downloaded on district computers...still in question whether or not students involved...details at 11. to: these two idiots got caught with some emails that technically violated our policies.

I get why they got the axe if that was some really 'out there' porn, or there had a truckload of personal emails back and forth, or they had been warned before. Seems like firing..er um resigning...for some "inappropriate emails" is a bit excessive. As with all these things, it would be nice to know the real story.

Not the schools - but the parents are pretty braggy. It's hard to talk with parents of kids in GP schools. If they aren't talking about how wonderful the school is, they are talking about the square feet of somone's house.
