They have so much money its rediculous. Wealth and prosperity beyond imagination.
Modern cities and global technological achievements. The world at thier feet, dependant upon them.

Meanwhile, here in the US, we are dead broke, while sitting on top of massive coal, oil and natural gas reserves.

    Who are the stupid ones?

    Dubai

So, move to Dubai. Live among those which you have such high esteem for. Flights leaving hourly.

    A different view of Dubai.

Sweet. These are some of the neighborhoods where workers that are building the shining city live. These are not unemployed people.

But it is building for the point of building. There's quite a few vacant apartments and condos in many of Dubai's highrises. Detroit has no clue how to protect and maintain its vacant housing stock, so it's not exactly fair to compare the two.

Also as old guy pointed out, it's alot easier to build trophy buildings when the labor is cheap. Honestly, how do you think most of our beloved historic, landmark skyscrapers were built in the US???

So, did anybody read the article? Just wondering since you're all talking about Dubai, and that's not where the building is.

The Netherlands just broke a "longest in the world" record. The biggest commercial river bulk carrier in the world was just baptized. The Vorstenbosch will maintain a freight line between the ports of Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Antwerp in Belgium.

It measures 147 x 22.80 x 6.36 metres [[the largest tanker barge to date was 135 metres). The vessel, owned by VT Minerals, will have a capacity of 12,000 tonnes. The Vorstenbosch will transport bunker oil in Rotterdam and the other ARA ports.
The ship will respond to the increase in scale in container shipping. The sea vessels with capacities of up to 15,000 TEU have larger fuel tanks that need to be filled in the same short time in the port as the smaller vessels.

    Doesn't look that impressive...

...untill you see it in a lock! Two standard size boats in front and the Vorstenbosch way in the back of the picture!!

Nice addition to the Rotterdam port. This port is already a haven for giants. Three of the five largest off-shore cranes in the world have Rotterdam as it's home port. Furthermore the E-ships of Maersk are frequent visitors.
