Mandela: The Official Exhibition

The Henry Ford is the first museum in Michigan to host this exhibition produced by Round Room Line in partnership with The Royal House of Mandela [[RHoM) and RHoM Investments. This new touring exhibition will take visitors on a personal journey through the life of one of the world’s most iconic freedom fighters.

The exhibition features previously unseen footage, photos and the display of more than 150 historical artifacts and personal effects on loan from the Mandela family, museums and archives worldwide.

Saturday through Jan. 15 at The Henry Ford Museum, 20900 Oakwood Blvd. in Dearborn. General admission tickets start at $30 for ages 12-61.

Corn Maze at Maybury

The Ford IT Design Team designed a 10-acre corn maze for visitors to walk through. The attraction consists of two corn mazes – a one-acre maze for children and those who are directionally challenged, and a nine-acre maze with a scavenger hunt along the pathways.

A tractor drawn wagon ride takes you to and from the maze. Once back to the farm, visitors can visit farm animals, partake in educational activities and enjoy a farm-themed playground area.
Cider, donuts and pumpkins will be available for purchase.

Hours for the corn maze are 5-8 p.m. Fridays; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 29 at 50165 8 Mile Road in Northville. $13 per person, children under the age of 2 are free; $8 per person for Maybury Farm members.

Helicopter rides

Celebrate Sweetest Day with a Detroit helicopter ride and see views of the city from above. Passengers will be able to see landmarks like the Renaissance Center and Detroit’s sports stadiums from a bird's-eye view.
A variety of tour packages are available, including Detroit Quick Hop, Detroit Ambassador Bridge, Detroit Skyline or Detroit Big D.

A Sweetest Day package includes champagne and treats.
Rides for MyFlight Detroit take off from the Detroit City Airport at 11499 Conner St. in Detroit. Reservations are recommended and must be completed online prior to arrival. Tickets start at $55 per rider.

Pumpkin Palooza

This annual event by the Plymouth Community Chamber of Commerce will be a fun, haunted Halloween experience for the family. It will feature games and prizes, a costume contest for kids and pets, entertainment, crafts, candy and more.

11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sunday in downtown Plymouth held on the streets of West Ann Arbor Trail, Forest Avenue, Penniman and Main. Free.

Night of the Dragon Medieval Festival

This medieval-themed festival will have live entertainment, bonfires, axe throwing, a costume contest for adults and children, inflatables, crafts, strolling performers, live astronomy presentations and more.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

6 p.m.-midnight Saturday at Stony Creek Metropark, 4300 Main Park Road in Shelby Township. The event is free to attend. A Metropark daily or annual vehicle pass is required to enter park.

Ride a train for Halloween

Celebrate Halloween with the Michigan Transit Museum, Sunday October 22 and Sunday October 29.

Bring the kids/grandkids/nephews/nieces/... in their Halloween costumes and take a ride on our historic train. Trick-Or-Treat candy given out after the ride.

Details at http://www.michigantransitmuseum.com. Select "TRAIN FARES & SCHEDULE" on the menu for times and to buy tickets online, or show up at Joy Park on Joy Blvd. in Mt. Clemens for available walk-up tickets - they can sell out fast.

In addition to the normally scheduled trips, there will be extra 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM trips on the Halloween trains.

After the train ride, visit the historic 1859 Grand Trunk depot on Cass Ave. at Grand Ave. in Mt. Clemens, where Thomas Edison once worked. Hear the interesting story on how he got his job there. See the Michigan railroad and DSR memorabilia on display.
