We know a lot of the schools in Grosse Pointe are declining, especially further north towards St. Clair Shores. Is Grosse Pointe trying to do anything about this? Has there been any discussion about possible ideas that would help the school system? Grosse Pointe south is a good school but North suffers and seemingly continues to decline and something must be done to bring it back.

Mostly Grosse Pointe North High School is experiencing in influx of Black students [[mostly from Harper Woods.) The rest of G.P.P.S. are doing fine.
"Decline" meaning: influx of African American children. There is nothing wrong with any part of Grosse Pointe Public Schools. This is an old fear that is unfounded, aside from socioeconomic clashes that are bound to occur between divergent groups of school children.
What data is there to support that the schools are declining?
The northern half of GP schools are declining, per basically every piece of public school data available. GP North, which used to be one of the top-performing high schools in the state and basically the same test scores as GP South, is now nowhere close to a top-tier school.Quote:

Per Schooldigger, GP North is the 103rd best high school in Michigan, and GP South is the 18th best high school in Michigan. To me, that's a substantial difference.

And to compare to some other stereotypically high performing Metro Detroit high schools, Rochester Adams is ranked 6th, Northville is ranked 16th, Troy 22nd, Novi 25th.
And you see a bigger difference in the lower grades. GP North still has decent overall performance, but some of the elementaries that feed into North have relatively poor performance, which means it's reasonable to assume that GP North will fall in the rankings in the coming years.
It looks like it's remained pretty consistent with the state average and has gone up and down with the state.

Newsflash: South has always been a stronger school than North.
Increasing diversity is a newer thing [[i.e. last 5-8 years) to North than it is to South, and South may be better harnessing the diversity for good [[minus a few embarrassing incidents that inevitably make headlines), but ultimately that is a side issue. Bottom line is, as it always has been: achievement is a matrix of parental involvement/oversight and teacher/admin instrumentalness. It takes a village. The prognosis is not a bad one for either school, or for the district at large.
Considering that even this year's US News and World Report Ranking for Top High Schools in Michigan has Grosse Pointe South in the Top 10 [[i.e. number 8) - this question was likely posed by someone jealous they don't live in the GP's. Still the most desirable community in SE MI.

Glad to know that after finally moving to Grosse Pointe you have picked up on the decades old "Grosse Pointe North is going downhill" garbage. It's like some kind of rite of passage.
