Today there is a 7-acre parking lot [[priced astronomically, I understand) at the southwest corner of I-375 and Gratiot. I saw an aerial from the 1950s that looked like a large hospital or industrial complex with a bunch of mid-rise structures [[as in about 10 stories). Stroh's was kitty-corner to this site. So what was it before? And was it mowed down for the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice? Or for some other reason?
Looks like it might be Detroit Receiving and the central fire station plus a bunch of commercial parcels just to the north. Hard to say with those parcels because they don't necessarily reflect structures that stretch across them.
Old Detroit College of Medicine/Wayne State medical school. South of it was St Mary's Memorial Hospital and Detroit Receiving Hospital.
Fascinating - so all of that went down when? Around 1980 when Receiving relocated? It was almost like a mini DMC for the CBD.

The lot sits empty now because Greektown Casino paid too much for it to begin with and doesn't want to take a loss on their purchase.Quote:
