I can't believe nobody posted this yet. According to Sue Lowden [[running for the NV senate) if don't have sufficient insurance, we can simply give the doctor a chicken to offset the cost. This is brilliant stuff. I'm wondering if my student loan people will also take a chicken [[I'm being completely sarcastic by the way).

The idea of people without money being able to work off what they owe sometimes has merit. Where my Father came from in rural Ontario, farmers could have their property taxes reduced if they cut their roadside grass themselves instead of having the road department do it. I knew of an architect who, during the depression, accepted artworks in lieu of cash because his clients were short on cash. Paying for an office visit with 33 chickens sounds silly but the concept is valid especially if we ever get hyper-inflation. [[yeah, I know, different subject) Money remains the best medium of exchange in most circumstances.
Sue Lowden, though, has a recent past worth noting. When the Nevada Republican presidential primary was held, she was one of two in charge who shut it down when it looked like Ron Paul was going to defeat McCain. Paul had won the first results. Rather than go on counting, she shut down the assembly. The other delegate votes never did get counted. The national Republican Party later intervened and assigned all uncounted votes to McCain delegates. Sue Lowden thus has the distinction of throwing an election. We don't need such a Senator in Washington. She is sort of the ultimate neocon.

On items related to health care I usually like to read what Aaron Carrol's take is on it and this was his take.
"Look, first of all, the only thing a doctor can barter for is his time. That’s it. I suppose a doctor could decide to take less than his usual fee [[or a chicken) in exchange for his time spend in an office visit. But a doctor can’t barter away the cost of his office. His taxes. His billing expenses. The medicines, equipment, and supplies he needs. The cost of a laboratory. The cost of tests. And so on.
And that’s just an office visit. Imagine if you needed surgery. There are hospital bills. Operating room fees. Anesthesia. Techs. Nurses. Drugs. And tons of other things you never think about. Go look at a hospital bill, and I guarantee you that the doctor’s fee is one line on a multi-page document.
Moreover, a chicken? Really? Maybe in the “olden days” health care costs could be counted in chickens, but no longer. I just checked, and I can get a rotisserie chicken from Marsh for less than $5. That’s what Sue Lowden thinks a doctor visit should cost? I have a pretty thick skin, but that’s insulting even to me. Maybe we can pay her Senate salary in chickens.
I’m hoping that, in her own way, she is trying to make the argument that exposing consumers to prices and forcing them to be discriminating shoppers could help to contain costs. My fear, though, is that she really means what she says.

Just thought the wikipedia synopsis would add to this discussion. There was no implication that being a beauty queen or marrying rich qualified her for policics. In fact, the prior paragraph in my previous post laid out a very good reason for why Sue Lowden should instead be in prison.Quote:
