First Driverless Bus Service Coming to Downtown Detroit

"Two self-driving shuttles will bus staff to and from the First National Building in Cadillac Square to the Bricktown Parking Garage at Beaubien and Fort streets. The route will run along Congress Street to Beaubien Street to Monroe Avenue to Farmer and Bates streets back to Congress Street.

"We have a capacity of moving around 50 people per hour, which we project will be enough for this route" May Mobility founder and CEO Edwin Olson told Crain's in an email.

The test run is set for 7-10 p.m. Monday-Friday. The two electric vehicles, manufactured by Medina, Minn.-based Polaris Industries Inc., are equipped with six doors for six seats. The shuttles will be manned during the test run.
