I'm a member of this form for a fairly long time but the location bound by Adams, Witherell, Madison and John street hasn't been discussed that often. I'm wondering what stood at that corner. And will there ever be a chance of building on that plot that close to Comerica park?

That spot, since at the least the 1930s, has been...
... a surface parking lot.

An 80-year old parking lot??? Should be protected as a landmark!
I'm thinking this historic parking lot should be restored to its historically accurate surface. There should be some grant money available for this, somewhere.Quote:

The 1921 Sanborn shows about half of that block being a parking lot, pushing the age to almost 90 years.
Now to figure out WTF the Auto Workers Temple was. Some early union hall? I think we had something about it in an old thread.
Being so close to Comerica Park, its only logical purpose is a parking lot to serve Comerica Park.
The only chance for this lot to be re-developed, would be on the day they tear down Comerica Park.
Parked in that lot when I worked at Mary Jane Shoes in 1969......

Plaintiff is an incorporated company, its chief object being
to promote the interests of those engaged in the automobile
industry. Defendant Hans Janson is by trade an automobile
trimmer. He was an active member of the plaintiff organization.
Defendant Fred Weiss is a real estate operator in the city of
Detroit.
Also there is an example in the Michigan DLEG of one from Lansing, but probably not the same org.

That sole building on that block is very nice looking! [[In the picture above it's Michigan Telephone Co.) It's now Barden Companies. Is there anything know about the history of that building?\ Same building, left of the Detroit Athletic Club. Plus buildings in the background that once stood at the spot of Comerica Park.
Are there any public parking lots in that area where you can park, unload a bike, and go for ride?
One that doesnt cost twenty dollars or something?
