Jacoby's is not only a great old bar, they have pretty good food also. Grand Trunk is also an old great place with excellent food, but not convenient to the People Mover.
Saturday morning if you haven't ever been, go check out the coffe shop in the main floor of the Guardian Bldg. The building itself is definitely worth a trip and the coffee shop has great java.

My favorite thing to do downtown is to walk and explore. You will find all kinds of cool spots and neat adventures no mater how many times you do it.

CaSINos, Eastern Market, Swimming off Zug Island, the Henry Ford, the DIA, Belle Isle, McDonald's, The original Post Bar, the Anchor, skateboard on the Union Monument and act surprised when some teamster kicks your butt for being a jerk.
FYI the big Detroit Kennel Club dog show is Saturday and Sunday at Cobo. We always go and have a great time. The actual show is like watching paint dry but this is one of only 3 "bench shows" left in the country where all the dogs have to be present the entire time, so you can meet just about every breed there is, pet them, talk to their owners, etc. while they are hanging out before or after they go into the show ring.
Did someone say the Majestic?? The dude is gonna be Downtown not all the way up in Midtown.
Go to Niki's Lounge above Niki's Pizza. Guarantee you'll need to walk back to the hotel or take a cab.

Stop by the Astoria bakery on Monroe in Greektown. I just introduced about 15 out of staters to that place last weekend during Autorama. They were amazed by the selection of sweets.

You could take a taxi-cab. Taxi stands [[where you can walk right up and "hail a cab") are located outside Cobo and/or Joe Louis, outside the Marriott Hotel entrance of the Renaissance Center, outside any of the Detroit Casinos, and at the transit center. Be sure to take down the phone number of the taxi service, so you can just call them from a cell phone at anytime. They usually arrive within fifteen minutes of calling.

If I would go to a Wings game I would do the following to get there from Dearborn and leave the car behind:
After the game:
- Walk out of the house at 5 in the evening and take a three-to-five-minute walk down Westland Street to Michigan Avenue and cross the busy road!
- Board the 2 Michigan buses [[wait at the red sign for the 200 or the [[rare these days!) green and yellow sign for the 37)
- [[a) exit the 200 at 3rd Street downtown and take a short walk to the Michigan DPM station or [[b) exit the 37 at the Rosa Parks TC and walk to the Times Square DPM station
- once at Michigan or TS, pay the $0.50, go through the turnstile and wait for a DPM train [[the sign says "For your safety wait for trains behind the yellow platform edge")
- see downtown's bright and dark signs out the windows of the train. I may get a DPM guide on the train.
- exit at Joe Louis Arena DPM station and find a way to my in-arena seat
That's my no-car way of going to the JLA.
- I follow the crowd out of the JLA and into the DPM station and pay the $0.50 fare
- wait for DPM train
- take it to Michigan
- board the 200 in front of the AT&T building
- exit at Rosalie Street and walk to Westland
- walk home and then go to sleep
- wake up in the morning
They used to have a bus that left from the Dearborn Civic Center at Michigan and Greenfield that took you directly to the Olympia for Saturday afternoon matinee games. Walked there from my cousins house on Palmer. Sat in the balcony. Great view, fun times as a kid.

Wound up at Hockeytown to start the game and to take advantage of the shuttle. Was wishing we ate somewhere else even though the burger and wings were alright.
The game was awesome. Took the people mover back. Was my first time riding and felt like an amusement park ride at times. The guy had to slam the breaks on too maybe because he was catching another train? The line for that at the Joe kinda sucked but wasn't too bad.
After the game we did MGM to people watch and a couple slots. The Ice bar and Aqua bar were cool for that. Whats the deal with the bar that had Arabian nights? I guess you take an eleveator to get to it. I wasn't thrilled about that theme but the location made me curious about checking it out on a different night. I can enjoy a nightclub here and there.
This morning we settled for subway at the Ren Cen. Ya no comments necc.
I redeemed myself by going to Honeybee and getting a cup of Pico and Guac along with a Rock & Rye and Mexican Coke. Somehow I forgot the damn chips don't ask me how. I had to leave Belle Isle where I planned on eating them and enjoying the view to pick up a bag of Scoops at the Foodland Market down Jefferson near Dickerson.
Had fun and the Ren Cen room view was great!
