The changing gun control climate in some states has gun manufacturers based there considering a move. Colt in CT and Magpull in CO are two recent examples. Understanding the controversial nature of the topic, does the economic benefits trump the negatives? Keep in mind more people die from auto accidents each year than gun shots!

Well, why not? And every other political power buying profiteering at the expense of common sense company you can think of along with them. Our Michigan legislature needs more money in its claws to vote against our interests, won't it be just DUCKY?
Due to the auto supply base, the technologies and skills that support the manufacture of guns - such as forging, precision machining, die- and sand-casting, metal finishing, and the like are all found in Detroit, probably in a greater concentration than anywhere else in the country.

The subject prompted me to do a check on gun fatalities in America and I found that in 2011 there were 32,000 [[of which surprisingly 20,000 were suicide); also in 2011 there were 34,500 vehicle fatalities. I wouldn't go out of my way to solicit Gun Manufacturers to move to Michigan but neither would I put obstacles in their way if it was their intent. We have the quality of workers needed, and guns will be made somewhere even if it's offshore. And lets face it we build vehicles and we have our fair share of doctors/surgeons.
Come to think about it, I'm not going to commit suicide, so I'll take my 1 to 19 chances of being shot compared to finding myself under a surgeons knife.

Not true in Colorado. More people die from guns than auto accidents in Colorado.

I wasn't trying to justify anything; just merely addressing the fact that, on a national level, more people die from auto accidents. Not sure the manner in which they died is relevant - dead is dead. Ask their family if they feel comforted because their love one died in an auto accident when traveling to work. Also, wasn't Detroit considered the "Arsenal of Democracy" when it was pumping out military weapons during WWII? I'm sure a "few" innocent lives were taken during a carpet bombing by a B-2 bomber built at Willow Run, but I digress.Quote:

Maybe the state should consider offering a MEGA grant to a gun manufacturers if they partner with law enforcement to create work-release jobs for felons? "I used to steal guns and kill people, now I build them and make a killing."
On the entrepreneurial start-up end DIY gun-making is getting ready to take off with the advent of 3D printing. The CAD files for the parts are online now. Better yet they can be made in non-metallic materials. Who knows, maybe some budding Henry Ford is hard at work in his urban prairie garage as we write.
I wish it would all go away and end, but it won't by any stretch of the imagination. This reminds me of the casino issue back in the day. Once Windsor opened the bottle and let the genie out, the question became whether to let the money continue flowing to CA, or to keep it here in the States, in MI, in Detroit. To me, this is the same conundrum. Somebody is going to make these things somewhere, so why not here? And I'm sure we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg with 3D printing and your described scenario. Eienstein was so bummed they made a bomb with his equation.Quote:

18-1-704.5. Use of deadly physical force against an intruder.
- The general assembly hereby recognizes that the citizens of Colorado have a right to expect absolute safety within their own homes.

im no expert on Colorado but when i visited the state i had taken notice of how much more walkable every town was. is there any chance that this could of played an effect on the ratio of car to gun deaths?Quote:
