City of Detroit Buying Most Of The Fairgrounds Site.

With my view from 500 miles away, I see folks trying to extend development in Detroit beyond areas which were being developed and into areas such as Corktown and trying to jump start the Fairgrounds development.

Those areas seem ripe for development to me.

Seems like a good move. The redevelopment of this area has been stalled for too long. "Magic Plus" can hopefully handle the 16 acres they are buying; they clearly could not deal with the larger fairgrounds.

Bring back the race track!

I couldn't tell by the picture, but does The Fairgrounds Coliseum still exist?

Yes. I saw this story on the local news today and they showed it. Mayor Duggan said hopefully some of the buildings could be reused.

They also showed the old rabbit and chicken building. I liked going there during the fair. :[[

Me too. As a kid from Detroit, I didn't know so many varieties of strange fowl and rabbits existed.

Me three. As much as I liked the cows and horses, growing up in Ferndale I could relate more to the guinea pigs and rabbits in the small animal building.
