•The world’s best teams of 13- and 14-year-old baseball players converge on Taylor for the 35th straight year to compete in the Junior League World Series. World Series Field in Taylor’s Heritage Park will be home to colorful opening ceremonies on Saturday and eight days of baseball games featuring 10 American and international teams. Opening ceremonies are Saturday evening at Heritage Park, which is located at 12111 Pardee Road. The opening day of games is Sunday. Four games are scheduled each of the first five days, August 16-20, at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission is just $5 per carload per day or $15 for the entire week. •Go back to a time when poodle skirts, pony tails and leather jackets were all the rage as The Downriver Actors Guild presents “Lost in the ‘50s” at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15 and at 3 p.m. Aug. 16 in Wyandotte. •Nerd out at the Taylor Town Comic Con, a new convention set for Aug. 15-16 at the Taylor Town Trade Center, 22525 Ecorse Road. Admission is $6 for a single day or $7.50 for a two-day pass. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 16.

• Ride the rails as the Great Lakes Live Steamers offer free miniature train rides from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 and 16 at Kiwanis Park in Southgate. The free rides around the park will take place weather permitting.
•The Flat Rock Downtown Development Authority is hosting a kids day and movie in the park Aug. 15 at Huroc Park. The movie featured will be “Cars,” with the park officially opening for the events at 6 p.m.
•Get all your ducks in a row for the the inaugural Gibraltar/Rockwood Rotary Rubber Duck Race. The fun family event takes place at 3 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Boblo Pavilion on Gibraltar Road at the intersection with North and South Gibraltar roads. Duck race tickets are $5 and available in advance at Gibraltar City Hall, 29450 Munro, or The Gibraltar Community Center, 29340 S. Gibraltar Road.
