Detroit Area Gardens
I'm trying to make a list of all the publicly accessible [[fee or otherwise) gardens and arboretums in the Detroit area, here's what I've come up with so far. I'm making a seperate list for major nature centers and parks. I'm also counting museums and historical areas with heavy landscaping with a theme towards gardening [[Fairlane, Meadowbrook, Greenfield Village, etc...) I'm also counting sites that are a day trip from the Detroit area, roughly two or three hours by car.
If anyone could add to the list I'd appreciate it.
Once finished I'm going to add these lists to a Google maps/wiki style thing for natural resources in the Detroit area.

Good job I was going to suggest Hidden Lake as it is well.... Hidden!
Toledo Zoo has gardens I don't know if it is out of your scope to go out of State but that is one I would suggest.
City of Windsor has several. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parks_in_Windsor,_Ontario

Heritage Garden in Shelby Township at Van Dyke & 24 Mile Rd..
There may be a new one coming soon to Utica at Auburn & Davis. They've completely rebuilt that area with terraced walls just begging for a garden. Someone was watering something down there recently.

for all the abandonment, there should be big sections of detroit returned to nature and re-dedicated as forest land..
