Fire breaks out at Detroit's Frederick Douglass housing development
The Detroit News / The Detroit News
Detroit— Vagrants trying to keep warm may have triggered the fire in the vacant Frederick Douglass housing development off I-75 just outside of downtown.
Smoke was billowing onto the highway during the morning commuter after one of the 16 row houses caught fire. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 9:45 a.m.
Eugene Jones, executive director of the Detroit Housing Commission, said the housing project has been vacant since 2008. In addition to the row houses, there are four high-rises and two mid-rise buildings on the campus that runs west from I-75 and east of Brush.

That Windsor Star article is just full of mistakes and incorrect facts. As the Detroit News article says, it was in one of the 2-story buildings not one of the hi-rises. Btw, an emergency demolition was put out for the structure.
