The boy who couldn't survive!

Just days ago. Two year old Damian Sutton was severely abused by his father Ronald Dimambro. How he's dead! What is going on with our American families today? We put laws to stop spanking, hitting and other abuses against children, but the beatings keep on going. Our American family structure is going upside down? Women are making babies and playing house. Men are not ready to be fathers, homosexual marriages are trend and the children are left behind. Since the age of keeping up the Joneses is over, the age of broken families begin. We must save our American families before it disappear for good.

I am a big believer in individual choice and preference. I also support gay marriage.

But I also am opposed to anti-societal behavior, dysfunctional relationships, and violence.

The problem, for those of us who have a strong libertarian streak, is simply that different have people have different capabilities of handling freedom.

I don't have a problem with people drinking, smoking marijuana, etc. But I do have a problem with people who put lives at risk by driving drunk. I have a problem with kids who forego their education and abuse marijuana.

The solution, I believe isn't to bring back the "traditional family". The solution, I believe, is to bring back societal value of healthy relationships...mentorship of our youth...a higher value toward knowledge and wisdom instead of just pleasure and materialism.

I do believe that there needs to be a culture war. But I think the culture war needs to be based not on a superficial definition of "family values", but rather a deeper cut...questioning why our society values the youth of Miley Cyrus more than the depth of a Nelson Mandela. Why are we choosing Young Jeezy over a Miles Davis? Our "warrior heroes" are those who cheat the rules instead of those who overcome the most.

Our culture is a mess right now. But the problem is that the only people saying this want to go back to when it was 1955, where it was also a mess...in a different way.

For us to advance we need to find a newer, better way of thinking and talking about this problem...and I'm not quite sure what that is yet.

You do have a way of tying some odd things together. Diambro was not daddy, and I am unsure how gay marriage fits into this whole discussion.

You should never leave your kid with someone who has a record. Another article I read told how he would get belligerently drunk and at time threaten people with his Mafia connections [[I believe the drunk part, but organized crime would want nothing to do with this moron).

Single moms look for love where they can find it. Unfortunately at times they are not too picky.

I hear what you're saying. The temptation to be a libertarian is appealing. But the problem is this: morals aren't shaped or passed on to following generations by legislation. They are passed on by PEOPLE.

The friends, family members and coworkers that I've observed who believe in the golden rule and progressive policies come from "traditional" backgrounds, even though they feel its possible to reject the "authoritarian" aspects of that upbringing. If you get much more than a generation away from a traditional upbringing the respect for others goes out the window and a selfish sense of entitlement and license seem to become normative.

I don't believe you can get "there" from a standpoint of a secularized concept that everyone's going to be okay in their own little vacuum/bubble. To be sure, traditional families and societies have their problems. They are, after all, made up of imperfect people. But they have the rules, however imperfectly they observe them, that would, if observed, lead to peaceful coexistence. The libertarian approach, taken to its logical conclusion, results in chaos, because there are no standards for anyone to observe, and no one to pass them on to future generations.

Not sure how you can connect same sex marriage with the changes happening to the "traditional American family" [[whatever that is).
Divorce, domestic violence, and other family problems existing LONG before same sex marriage came over the horizon.
Just curious, would you include interracial marriage as another example of American family woes, or does your bias only extend to the Gay community?

For sure he aint radiating a good countenance. Bold vibe registers high for me! Sorta easy to see thru this one. Butttt some do not show their mentality so easily.

Stop letting these 'strangers' around your kids - you don't know them well enough and it takes time to REALLY know someone. Background checks can help you decide if you should engage in the getting-to-know process.

I have been watching those beautiful blue eyes in the pictures since the story broke. There is nothing that a two year old could do to deserve to be shaken to death, to suffer as little Damian suffered. There is no acceptable reason for the caregiver not have placed Damian in a safe room, shut the door and waited for help. None.

More will come out on this i am sure. It isn't reasonable to think that a every mom or dad is going to run a background check on her boyfriend, the babysitter, if their relationship isn't new. It isn't reasonable to think it will be done in every case, but it is reasonable to say it should be done if it is a new sitter, friend or anyone you have a bad feeling about. The death of Damian and any abused child is heartbreaking. At this point the inconsolable pain mom and dad and family are going through is unexplainable. When all of the facts come out we will know better. But for now my feeling is reach out and help Damien's family whether it is financially, through prayer or whatever they may need.

No, i do not know this family. I feel their pain because of the totally unexpected death of my young son years ago and the fact that it can take weeks to know the whole story.

He is in God's hands and will feel no more pain, of this we can be sure.

Um, that's pretty much the libertarian position. People should be free to live how they wish as long as they aren't hurting anyone else or forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to. If you want to live on a socialist commune, go right ahead. If you want to live on a farm in Amish country, go right ahead. If you want to attend church regularly and not have children until you are married, go right ahead. If you never want to have children, go right ahead.

Is it a perfect situation? No, but neither is anything else. At least you have a choice.
