"Green Areas of Detroit -Are they now safe?

I know in some of the areas with the worst reputations buildings have decayed but many have been removed. These neighborhoods are not dense with people any more- there may only be one or two houses on a block.

Will these neighborhoods always be considered bad?

Are they still considered dangerous?

If Detroit didn't have such a foolish and expensive taxes, wouldn't people be encouraged to buy a house there and grab some cheap adjoining lots to make a really nice property?

Are there specific areas like this on which you have opinions?

This would almost be worse than people building way out in the exurbs. Streets and utilities should be decommissioned and closed off in these areas if there are no longer any houses on the street. None of those lots should be up on the market, rather taken control of by the city, county, or state. The problem is there are way too many linear feet of roadway / sidewalk / utility conduit to support one household, when it was designed for 40 something households. Maintaining that for 1 person.....when you have city blocks in other parts of the city filled with residents and crumbling pavement

Outside of a land speculator [[hoping for a state/federal project to be built) the land in Detroit has no value. Unlike any other city in North America, Detroit for various reasons is toxic. Come back 20 years and Hiroshima [[1945) will look good compaired to Detroit.

Well, actually people and companies are buying that property and now have begun to lobby to lower taxes and fix things. Some of that property has even been bundled up for developers. Be sure to keep an eye on The Suburbs are Unsustainable thread now and in the near future. Part of the debate involves Detroit neighborhoods like the ones you mentioned. ;)
