• Family members and friends of Jacob Marion are holding a cornhole tournament fundraiser for the young man who was struck by a train in February of 2012. The event takes place at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the home of Terry Matthews and Vickey Allen, 34041 Steadman Road, New Boston. The cost to play in the tournament is $20. Hot dogs, chips, pop and water will be available. No registration is required. • The Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy hosts “Incredible Insects” 10 a.m. Sept. 12 at the Gibraltar Bay Unit of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, 28820 East River Road, Grosse Ile. All proceeds will go to Christy’s Legacy of Hope, a Taylor-based charity for orphans. The charity is named for the late Christy DePriest Wright, who danced in the Taylor program as a little girl
