Joint sealing no parking notice?

So the wife and I got home from shopping this evening and there were these flyers posted along our street [[Scotten, north of W. Vernor). I've attached a picture but the gist of it is "NO PARKING / JOINT SEALING ON STREETS WILL START ON [hand written] Friday DATE [hand written] 5-20". They weren't there when we left around 6, so these went up sometime between 6pm and 8pm. They don't mention the City; and there's none of the usual verbage we used to get on street cleaning notices about "No parking by order of...". There isn't even a start time...just "Friday 5-20".

We did notice some guys that seemed to be trying to get people to park in the lot for the old clinic at Scotten & Vernor, which we thought was a bit weird. Could this be a new scam to try to make a few bucks charging people for parking?

Sure looks like a scam to me. I doubt a call to the police would have any results, though. Keep watching your back!

You could try calling the Detroit Department of Public Works Street Maintenance Division [[313) 224-0033.

My wife says they started doing stuff an hour or so after I left for work, so I guess it was real, just very poorly executed. My best guess is the contractors just tossed signs up themselves instead of going through official channels [[which probably also means they had no authority to ticket or tow anyone who didn't comply, but I wasn't there to find out.)

More than likely contractors. We had contractors completely tear up our road and their communication wasn't the best, had misspellings, etc...

At least you got notice before the work started. I got my notice the day after they dug up the street in front of my house.
