the tempt's
My wife & I are going to see the Temptations & 4 Tops tomorrow night at the
Winstar Casino in Okla-a 1 hr drive on I35 from Dallas. Will give a report next week. Happened to hear Otis Williams being interviewed yesterday on National
Public Radio. Amazing! the group is about to release it's 49th album[[wow) &
next year will be their 50th anniversary. I'm sure someone's got some interesting
Tempt's stories, what streets they lived on, club performances in Detroit, etc. Hope
I get a chance to get a pic w/Mr Williams or the entire group for that matter.

I know two of their kids went to Parkman Elementary on the West side in the late 60's because they were in my class. One was Otis' son and the other one was David Ruffin's daughter if I remember.

In the 70's, David Ruffin lived on Parkside north of McNichols. I lived two blocks south of him on the same street. One year, my younger brother and 2 or 3 other kids decided to ring his doorbell on Halloween. They didn't bother to notice that the porch light was not turned on. David's wife answered the door, and although the Ruffins were obviously not expecting trick-or-treaters that night, they were very gracious and invited them in. In lieu of candy, David gave them each of the kids a couple bucks and a personally autographed picture. Even though it happened over 30 years ago, my brother still tells that story as if it was the high point of his life.

As I wrote last week my wife & I went to Winstar Casino in Okla[[1 hr drive up I35 from Dallas) to the Temptations & Four Tops in concert. One word review-UNFORGETABLE! For any of you who haven't seen the Tempts before & the the opportunity comes up don't let it go by. Trust me-you won't be disappointed. To see one of these groups is a special treat. To see both together is a never to be forgotten memory. The Tempts knocked themselves out to put on a show for their fans. The front man Bruce Williamson goes at least 300 lbs[[probably more) & blew everybody away with his singing & the way this big guy could dance. Of course seeing original Tempt Otis Williams gave me a lump in my throat. The Tops with original Duke Fakir also put on terrific show & their tribute to the late originals was heartfelt & touching. All in all it was a great Saturday night. Don't miss this show if you have a chance.
