A Ruling in the Right to Literary Litigation

The Sixth Circuit, by a 2 to 1 vote, permitted the law suit about literacy in Detroit schools to move forward. That is,
plaintiffs from Detroit argued that the state supported a public school system in Detroit that did not ensure that students had a fair opportunity to become literate. The case was thrown out by the district judge but now has been reinstated by the Sixth Circuit. Will this matter eventually get to the Supreme Court? Does a state have to provide an elementary school system such that children have a fair and equitable change to become literate?

Is that a trick question? If an educational system is doing a proper job, there would be no such issues.

It's very obvious that students aren't entitled to a fair and equitable overall public education, but whether that's the case with literacy specifically I don't know.

if there was ANY kind of support from home the school system wouldn’t have to do it all. Why not house the children. I mean they are already expected to teach and feed them. Pawn it all off so you don’t have to accept any responsibility as a parent. Stop having children YOU can’t properly raise!

You know that's not going to happen. The only way the cycle ends is if gov't intervenes enough to give a child the chance to not repeat the same. That requires education [[academic, sex, personal finance, etc.) mentoring, nutrition, etc. to allow the child a chance to break away from their familial/social background. In the cases where this is successful the payoff is huge to society.

This could pave the way for a more equitable education for the children of Detroit. Far too long have students been subject to dilapidated buildings and underfunded programs. It's an injustice that can hopefully be rectified.

“Standardized testing should be abolished because students are failing these standardized tests because of the teachers who are bad at test-based teachings. This testing causes severe stress among younger students. There are many studies showing that there are many effects that are caused by these stress levels.

Standardized tests have never helped students learn. Agreed they should be abolished.

Testing results in teachers 'teaching the test' so their school seems to get better scores. It does not adequately prepare students for life.

Testing is fine. But it needs to be more random in scheduling with little or no advance information to the teachers or districts. Let the tests determine how effective teachers are at teaching the subject matter.

Students should not be graded on those tests either which would greatly reduce the stress on them. Results should be about the school system.
