Near Tireman and Livernois on the west side is the former location of some large building. The interesting thing to me is that it only had access through various alley's instead of streets. Anyone have some old maps or info to shed light on what this building was? It is visible in the 1999 photo and long gone by today.

Can't tell from that picture, but I do remember back in the 60's Awrey Bakery used to be in that area, if it's west of Livernois.
I should have specified the location better. Its at the end of Rangoon. West of Livernois and North of Tireman.
Is the top image from Google? If so, how do you view it with Google?

It shows on the circa 1950 Sanborn map as "Fly-Tight Screen Mfrs", but also says "woodworking and "electric motor".
Another mildly interesting question is why the streets in that little neighborhood are named for places in Burma [[Rangoon and Mandalay).

Could it have something to do with it being exactly 180° [[by longitude only) around the world from Burma? I don't know. That's just a guess.Quote:

Is this the location that later became the General Tire "Tireman" warehouse? The entry was only thru the rear, and was on Tireman, one block West of Livernois.
Pretty good guess.
