I know two people who don't have or want mobile phones. I wonder what they would do in an emergency while out - or if they just needed a ride or had a flat tire or something. It reminds me that I have no idea where a public payphone might be in Downtown Detroit.
Are there any?

At the risk of hijacking this thread, the explosions of cell phones and the loss of pay phones has had one beautiful result in the Las Vegas casinos I visit. No longer do I hear constant overhead pages of "phone call for Harry Smith, Mr. Harry Smith, please." In fact I don't recall hearing one for the last ten years or so. [[Newbies....I live in Las Vegas.)
You can find them at all the stables so when you stable your horse you can phone your hotel so they know you have arrived in town.

Lowell, I think the payphone booths were all just about gone by the time I started shooting the cities almost 30 years ago. Dammit Im not that old man ;)
I do wish I had a pic of the red English cast iron phone booth we stored in our warehouse in Oakland. That thing weighed a ton literally, vey cool. Someone had brought it over from London.
IMO, have your friends get a small, basic, buy-the-minutes, cell phone, and keep it in their purse or pocket. Shit happens, as they say, and as we've just witnessed, it isn't worth it pounding on someone's door @ 4:30 A.M.Quote:
