I've never lived outside of Metro-Detroit but I do see situations where regionalism makes sense. But I wonder. For those of you that have lived in other cities how does Metro-Detroit compare to other metropolitan areas of similar size [[population wise) in regards to regional cooperation?
I live in NYC, which is obviously a much larger city, but there is far more regionalization of resources here than in Detroit. The NYC transit system [[including bus and subway) is a state owned agency [[Metropolitan Transit Authority), as are the two commuter rail systems operating on the NY State side of the metro area. The three area airports, all of the major bridges and tunnels, and the subway system connecting New York and New Jersey [[PATH) are owned and operated by an agency jointly controlled by the states of New York and New Jersey [[the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey).
