I was in there today. That place has bulletproof glass. It's the only Tim's I've ever seen that was glassed in. The location on East Jefferson doesn't have it, the manager is always out front, he's friendly and engaging, the two locations on Eight Mile don't either. I don't like businesses with bulletproof glass, it makes me uneasy, if someone comes in and robs the place the customers are left exposed. Also, their selection of donuts and muffins wasn't very good.
That's too bad. I'm assuming the one on Wyoming will be the same.Quote:

Add to that the joy that some stores in the city that make you leave your bags with purchase from elsewhere at the front 'security' area while you shop. I usually talk the security guards out of that one!
I'm not LEAVING my packages so someone else shopping can 'claim' them or the guard accidentally give them to someone else. Nope.
Some college book stores do this. They say to keep students from stealing. All bags and back packs must be left on these shelves while you are there. Oh, my!

As far as banks go, other than maybe downtown and at the CUFSC I'm not aware of any branches that DON'T make you go through a metal detector in the city.
Bank of America does not. Not even the one E. Jefferson near Connor does not. Most B o A's don't. The one the WSU/ Cultural Center [[Woodward and Mack) doesn't.

Every business owner, be it a bank, store, gas station or whatever, has to protect their merchandise, property and employees. Insurance auditors will come and view the property and make safety recommendations. If the owners do not follow the recommendations, the insurance companies can either refuse to insure them, or deny a claim that stems from the lack of one of those protections.
It is sad that the world has come to this, but it is a fact of life now.
Can you imagine anyone who lives around 7 mile & evergreen ordering a frosted double mocha cappuccino, or even a basic coffee for that matter? When I heard about that location for a Tim Hortons I was a little stumped. They sell fruit drinks/shakes right? Donuts & pastries also, but I can't imagine the demographic around that area wanting to frequent a Tim Hortons.

But part of the reason they may not have the metal detectors is because unlike Chase and Comerica, B of A branches are essentially skeletons. The newer ones that are built may have one or two teller windows and one or two personal bankers/loan officers on site at the most. They've been aggressively shifting everything about traditonal banking towards the ATM and online banking.
As far as Michigan First, there are only two or three branches in the city, all of which are downtown [[New Center Area and WSU).

Yep. There's a TH I used to go to and the server tried to make it right for me with different blends and flavorings. Ugh... bad no matter what. Yet she worked so hard I gave her a good tip. Their sandwiches are good!

And I think at least a few downtrodden [[sarcasm) Detroiters go to them... the Tim Hortons on Five Mile/Fenkell just west of Telegraph [[Redford Twp but adjacent to Brightmoor area) is always packed [[including with Detroit PD)... so much so that they bought out a stand-alone Subway that is on the east side of Telegraph about 1/3 mile south of Five Mile and opened another Timmy's right there. I haven't been in the new one to see if it's bulletproofed inside... i know it is a much smaller building so there isn't much seating inside [[whereas the original Five Mile is one of thier larger store designs).
This is a very odd thread.
There are fast food joints all over Detroit, yet somehow Tim Hortons is an outlier, because it sells coffee [[like every other fast food joint), which black folks supposedly don't drink...
And, even stranger, if Detroiters are against paying $10 to enter their [[currently free) city parks, they must not be able to afford a coffee at Tim Hortons.
Bloomfield Hills residents refuse to even pay for a city library, and are notoriously tax- and user fee-averse, so I guess they can't afford Tim Hortons coffee either.
