What a great poster Arminski did. Best we've had in years.
I wonder if they are going to let you bring your own booze this time, or make you pay for their overpriced crap?
Sorry to spoil your day Blarf but your going to have to buy the beer or wine at the Dally. I would hardly call it crap though, Motor City Brew has some pretty damn good Detroit made beer. The Dally is not sponsored by Bud or Miller, only supplied by a local brewery [[That I just happened to be sitting in at the moment enjoying a Ghettoblaster).
The beer has been $4 a pint for years at the Dally and this year it had to go up in price one dollar. Beer sales are what keeps the Dally alive year after year.
So no, you cannot bring your own booze, there is a Tigers game that day, I think they charge $7 or $8 for a Miller, Bush, or whoever sponsors them.
Hope to see you all there.
And yes, before any of you jump on me for the martini couch and having a few of my own specially made dirty blue cheese stuffed olive martinis for me and my friends, Ive been grandfathered claused in so to speak.
You're related to Santa?!
Oh, man. I need new sunglasses and I'm all out of Shea butter.
Detroitnerd, you win funniest post of the day. And it's only 10AM :)
No need for shea butter or sunglasses here, either!
Just an enjoyable day, and running into folks we haven't seen lately. It's kind of like a neighborhood reunion for us. Looking forward to experiencing some music from bands we have not seen before.
We'll also be checking into the Bronx Bar for a visit.
I'm going to try and hit Dally this year; I haven't been there in many years. Every year I seem to think about it the weekend after it happens.
Also, Mark is da MAN! Great guy and a fan tab artist.
Neh, I will just sneak my own in like always. It's not that hard. All you have to do it buy one cup, and then just keep refilling it with your own in a more secluded place. Or a pint of liquor.
I like Ghettoblaster as much as the next guy, but I don't feel like spending 30$ to get a good buzz on.
Ssssshhhhhh!
We don't want to tip off security, or MLCC, do we?
I admit that I might visit the University Party Store, or whatever it's called now, for maybe a shot bottle. Worked there forty years ago!
I promise not to sneak it in, though. A quick drink and proper disposal of the bottle is assured.
Dally On!!
Come to think of it Im technically on private property inside a garage during the Dally with my couch but you can go ahead and call the MLCC to see what happens Vince.
I cant aford a $5 cup of beer either, luckily I get a few for free for working the Dally.
Always a great time.
Anyone have any pics of past Dallys?
the poster looks a little like an Atwater Brewery ripoff...

Dally dancers. Layabouts, 2003:
Absolutely love the Layabouts.
So bummed I'm going to miss this year. Planned my bi-monthly Detroit visits badly this time around [[I was just there like 3 weeks ago). My uncle was one of the Dally founders and still hangs out there--he and his wife help out at one of the Motor City beer tables usually. My sister [[who works at Avalon) had a table for the slow food group she worked with there last year too.
Hope everything goes well. Should have good weather too it looks like. Sometimes I wish I had a few more bucks just to keep a small apartment there and some travel money to pop into town when cool things are going on. Working on it...
Hope to see some of you at the Dally later today...
Django, where are you going to be located? Exact location? A garage? Last I heard there are a few of them in the area ... also, what time you going to be there?
Middle of the main alley parallel to Forest, next to the beer garage.
He is there for the duration. Working.
I have to miss it, spent too much time waiting for glass to have any wiggle room from finishing my move. Damnit.
Another Audra Kubat show missed...it is starting NOW.
Hearing you can't BYOB is surprising. I've always brought my own brew [[sometimes non-alcoholic, because I had to be on duty the night of). I've always got wasted at $5 bottomless cup keggers in the area of Dally. Infact, I plan on going to one after Dally tonight.

Just returned home. Detroitnerd wasn't kidding about the sunglasses and shea butter! The people watching was fun...
Dally was fun...I love walking around with betterhalf.
Good to meet you Django and alsodave [[and Mrs. alsodave). Missed Gnome and Lowell by only a few minutes.
Wow...I was at the Dally for 2 1/2 hours and didn't run into a single DYes'r!! Saw several folks from work, and ran into a high school classmate that I hadn't seen in years. Enjoyed the people watching and the music!! Great fun!!
It was to see the new svelter Django ... Django 2.0 as it were. Sorry to have missed Lowell, LodgeDodger, AlsoDave and all the Better halfs. Our meter as running low so we couldn't stay.
I did take a few pix and bought a lovely blockprint of Kwame's mug shot.
Just got back home. Had fun, met many people we haven't seen in a long time.
Forest stage at 9:00 o'clock rocked!
Gloria, if you are reading this, it was great to meet again under our tree. Long time tradition, worth continuing.
Didn't realize that I knew Mark A. from way back....beautiful dog. Great work on the poster!
Best weather, ever....
Bobl: I'm still waiting to run into you at one of these music/art fests!!
Another great dally it was fun to get together and see so many people I haven,t seen. Also it nice to see how the old neighborhood is keeping up. I noticed they have put meters everywhere I wonder where everyone that lives around there parks now?
There's a great show at the CAID, http://www.thecaid.org/, of 3D photos of area musicians taken during the Blowout earlier this year. It opened last night and runs for a month or so. Chris Dean is the artist. http://www.chrisdean.com/
I had nice early PM visit. Perfect weather! Enjoyed a sit and chat with Django on the sofa for a while. Here are a few random shots off the phone camera... the techno stage gone; it was being used for an acrobatic display when I arrived...

... and as soapbox for candidates when I left. Anyone know who this guy is? :)
http://detroityes.com/webisodes/2009...erel-59467.jpg
Speaking of politics, the fringe can always be counted on to show up at the Dally...
http://detroityes.com/webisodes/2009...mies-59465.jpg
...and speaking of the Lay Abouts band, this Dally-er sports the 1996 Dally shirt designed by Lay About vocalist and artist Stephen Goodfellow...
http://detroityes.com/webisodes/2009...llow-59464.jpg
...and finally, for Detroit Nerd, an excellent selection of sun glasses and shea butter.

Great Dally, beautiful weather. Was great to finally meet Dodger, Betterhalf, and Alsodave, and hang out with Lowell for a while. Gnome showed but didnt get to chat but for a sec. but did get to meet his lovely bride.
Had a steady stream of friends stop by the martini couch but I never got around to making the martinis, I was more in a beer mood.
Speaking of Chris Dean and his show at CAID, he stopped by with his kids Jasper and Otto and he brought a sample of his work. I think Lowell just missed meeting him although he is a poster occasionally here. His work is pretty damn cool but didnt get to make it to the CAID yet.
The City really blew it for the Dally. The dumpsters were not emptied as they were supposed to be before the Dally and they didnt drop off any barricades to block off the street. It amazes me every year how hectic it can be before the Dally but it always works out in the end and everybody shows up.
Thanks for the pics, Lowell. We must have talked to Nick right after you took the photo of him and the Dally t shirt. He was on his way to work at the DIA.
Twila, sorry you couldn't make it!
hi, i am new to this forum....found out about this forum while i was searching information about dallyinthealley. I live on cass so i followed the loud music to find out the dallyinthealley party. :)
quote:
"...the communist party sitting next to the libertarians, i wonder how ammicable that was?.."
That is part of the beauty of the Dally!
Bobl, you hit the nail on the head.
The Dally gets better every year. The weather almost always cooperates. It seemed smaller this year, probably due to the absence of the techno stage. But it also seemed there were less booths, food vendors and people during the daylight hours. After dark, when the Night of the Living Dead people come out, the Dally was as packed as I've ever seen it. I took my traditional walk through the alley with a friend in the morning and this year I started a new tradition [[I hope not): took a friend to Duly's for sober-up [[not me) breakfast [[we were actually headed to Telway) at about 2AM and returned to walk the Fabulous Ruins of the Dally at 3AM. We then went to a post Dally party in Woodbridge. These are Gar Wood Mansion party hours.
Dally was great! So were my buddies Innerphonic & Will sessions, i hope you all got a chance to listen and love them! As for the show @ the CAID. I've done some photography with Chris Dean, "things i did with my lunch", it was very interesting and he's a great guy, i'd love to work with him anytime. I unfortunately didn't get to make it up to the CAID that night, but i plan on making it out to one of the shows before it ends. Anybody go? Did you enjoy it?
Well, the Dally In The Alley is approaching, again. Hope to run into old friends, and hear some new music. In the past, we knew all or most of the musicians. Now, very few. Good to see new generations of players arrive.
We'll set up our green lawn chairs near the Forest Stage, at the curb. Colleen sits back, I walk all over the place!
DYes people, introduce yourselves. Old guy with gray hair, thin woman with dark hair and green eyes, possibly with a cane.
Bummed I don't get to go this year [[I'll be on the other side of the ocean). Walking around the Dally is the most reliable way for me to run into friends & acquaintances I haven't seen in years.
You all are welcome to stop by the martini couch located next to the beer garage and use it as a meeting place for Dyesers. I haven't had martinis the past two years but this year I will try my best to get the olives stuffed and the vermouth ready.
Im also looking for a throwaway couch again, something long and comfortable if anyone is trying to get rid of one. I wont need it until the 10th, or early on the 11th.. Something without bedbugs would be great.
JJD wil likely be making an appearance as well.
My first scheduled Saturday off at the new job is Dally Day. Looking forward to meeting some Dyes people, meeting old friends, and walking the first neighborhood I called home, after leaving home!
Dally on....
We don't know of most of the music performers, which is OK. Last year we enjoyed seeing some new acts. Does anyone have capsule descriptions or recommendations of bands to see?
Still no breakdown on the site listing performance times and stages...
Schedule is now on their Facebook page.
I was thinking of going during the afternoon -- is it kid-friendly? I see mention on the Facebook page of a kids parade at 4 p.m., but unless I'm missing it, I don't see anything specific on the official site.
My son is almost 4. I was at the Dally after dark a couple of years ago, so I'm curious if during the day it would be OK/interesting for a 4-year-old boy.
Please advise, thanks.
Also, is there a cost to enter?
Thanks Sarah but Livonia is a bit far for me. Ill come up with a couch somehow but I am still looking if anyone else has one here in Detroit. Free martinis to anyone who can bring me one by 10 am Saturday. I can most likely throw in a free Dally t shirt also, or at least a poster.
BShea, kids are welcome, they have a kids area during the day. Im not sure whats up with the parade though. Im sure he would have a great time.
Dallys always free.
Bshea, bring your child down but expect that a 4 yr old will lose interest in about an hour.
Lots of sights, sounds, food and music We took our kids [[now grown) to many of these types of festivals and surprise to us they remember going.
Hope you have fun and an experience to share.
I left a message on his voice mail 313. I hope its a long 3 seater at least.
Beggars cant be choosers though.
BShea, this I found on the FB Dally page
http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile...521_1914_q.jpg Dally in the Alley Who wants to see the Detroit Party Marching Band !? They'll be leading the way for the Kids Parade at 4pm Saturday.
