"Jillian Graham, aka Detroit-based rapper Tiny Jag, pulled out of a local music festival this week because she disagreed with its pay model, in which people of color would pay less for tickets than white festivalgoers.
Graham said she only found out about AfroFuture Fest's pay model when a white friend reached out to her and sent her a screenshot via Instagram that outlined the pay difference. The early bird POC [["people of color") ticket was $10 while the early bird "non-POC" ticket cost $20.
"I was immediately enraged just because I am biracial," Graham tells Metro Times. "I have family members that would have, under those circumstances, been subjected to something that I would not ever want them to be in ... especially not because of anything that I have going on."
Graham says after the festival confirmed the price structure, she immediately withdrew from the event and requested that she be removed from any promotional materials. She says because she had publicly supported the festival without knowing about the discrepancy between the ticket prices, that she had to publicly withdraw her support as well."

So, was she screaming about school admissions and hiring policies that do basically the same type of thing?

I guess I won't be going.
I can take the hint.
This Non POC is Persona Non Grata.
I'm Ok with it. I'm used to it. Nothing new.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is federal civil rights legislation that prohibits discrimination in numerous settings including: employment, education, voting, and public accommodations. See FindLaw's codessection for the entire Civil Rights Act of 1964. Specifically, Title II prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin in places of public accommodations and provides injunctive relief for such violations. See the entire Title II text below.
SEC. 201. [[a) All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, and privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this section, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin.
https://civilrights.findlaw.com/enfo...ve-relief.html
Buy a ticket then find a lawyer and sue them for being in violation of the civil rights act of 1964,in front of an all white jury, that should be worth 50,60 mil.
This isn't much different than ladies' night promotions [[Ladies get in free every Thursday!) at your local bar. A quick search says Michigan has case law that allow those; other states don't allow.
Title II gets tricky, because section [[a) says any place of public accommodation, as described in section [[b):
[[b) Establishments affecting interstate commerce or supported in their activities by State action as places of public accommodation; lodgings; facilities principally engaged in selling food for consumption on the premises; gasoline stations; places of exhibition or entertainment; other covered establishments
[[3) any motion picture house, theater, concert hall, sports arena, stadium or other place of exhibition or entertainment
Is the empty lot at 866 Manistique St a place of entertainment? You would have to take it to federal court to find out.
On another level, could this construed as an example of a "De Facto segregation? A repudiation of De jure de-segregation.
de facto segregation [[segregation that exists because of the voluntary associations and neighborhoods)
de jure de-segregation [[de-segregation that exists because of laws that mandated the de-segregation)
I have have seen snippets here and there on the internets of just such a trend.
Umm, this is blowing up big... [[someone sent me this youtube):
Timcast: Music Festival Charges White People DOUBLE...
Do you have any evidence of this? As you know, equal pay for equal work laws have existed for 50 years. School admissions are for the most part based on school districts, the city you pay taxes to. Anyone feeling discriminated against should file suit. You know they'll win.
Another question. Why are you not outraged by this? I guess it's OK when the Left chooses not to treat everyone equally when it suits them. Anyway, hope this festival falls victim to "Get Woke, Go Broke".
It gets worse. Check this shit out.
"A man has successfully sued BrewDog for sex discrimination after a bartender refused to sell him a drink because of his gender.
In March 2018, Dr Thomas Bower asked to buy the beer company’s Pink IPA, which was offered a discounted price of £4 for customers who identify as female.
However, the 27-year-old said that after a “back and forth” with the bartender, he felt “forced” to identify as female so that he could purchase the drink."
Well played sir.

Oh my mistake, I thought you were arguing for more racial pandering. I'm with you on the failing Affirmative Action policies.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVvnTByzTmA
It's become a global phenomena pushed by debunked 3rd wave Feminist pay gap misinformation.
Do you also have a problem with Affirmative Action for the rich, such as when Trump got admitted to business school after Daddy’s big donation?
This differential pricing is without a doubt illegal. But I’d think many conservatives would embrace it because “freedom.” Or if the organizers could claim a “religious” basis, which always justifies discrimination to certain folks.
Well the story has made it to Fox's Website. That in itself says little.
Let's see where it doesn't make it.
Obviously not but I am for tax abatements to "rich" developers if it results in economic stimulation, employment and better use of abandoned properties. Gilbert has proven it can be done, not so much the Illitch's but let's wait and see what they have up their sleeve.
So when the next post pops up where the admittance fees are reversed we should remember that line.
If a night club opens up and has no cover charge for whites and charges $100 for entry to African Americans that would apparently be okay,if anybody complains we can just write it off as people just trying to gain attention and get thier name in the paper.
The reality is the club owner would be brought up on charges or sued by 10,000 lawyers and the club burnt to the ground.
I agree it is common practice for women and minority’s to be placed within corporations as token pieces in order to gain advantage in winning government contracts.
But who is actually selling themselves out?
Genuine question: Why is there so much outrage from some members? I can think of some possibilities:
- You believe it shows that POC are prejudiced against or hate non-POC?
- You believe it shows that a difference in enforcement of laws?
- You dislike hypocrisy?
- You believe it represents a threat to non-POC?
I could go on, but I'm more interested in what you are thinking?
This event will now charge the same fee for everyone. The story is being reported on various websites right, left an in between including now national news... Way to go Detroit!!
For me this was always clear discrimination. I refused to participate in cognitive or emotional gyrations or justification to find it otherwise:
Imagine the sheer OUTRAGE where the races reversed! Double standard? Who thought this would go over without some level of push back??
I am sure the concert is about musical appreciation and entertainment, bringing folks together [[I am wrong?). In any event the organizers marred that by putting a racial bias to the buying. They set the tone. If I were eh' non POC I would have not attended...
Past discrimination is not solved by continuing this way, IMO.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...inorities.html
- The event organizers on Sunday announced on Twitter that they would offer $20 general admission tickets to everyone
- The change was made because of 'threats from white supremacists' and 'racist comments on Instagram'
Rapp is not my cup of tea and own very few records. [[for lack of a better term) Kudos to Tiny Jag for taking a stand against racism. [[I get it she got some attention out of the deal) I know where I'm not welcome. It could be free and I wouldn't attend. Congratulations AfroFuture for setting race relations back a few years and giving Detroit an international black eye.
So all affirmative action and minority preferences in contracting will now be eliminated?
Do me a favor and try to figure out which side of the equation you're on before you post. Tiny Jag didn't contrive this scheme and didn't set the prices. Posting crap because you have nothing else to do is kind of lame. If all your integrity is worth is a couple of bucks, I feel for you.
They have changed the pricing.
Their reasoning? That they were getting harassed online. [[no shit)
The real reason? Evenbrite responded and said that they either fix this shit or else they're canceling the event on their site.
But we know that wouldn't look as good as a back pedal announcement for the festival.
Granted affirmative action has been controversial yet practiced at various levels, with some agreeing that it continue. Race-based price variants have not been currently tolerated when practiced openly as this was.
Thus, challenged to the level of being stop before it actually got going!
On Ladies night and as a promotion women are charged less not more then men, regardless of racial makeup.
These days you can as a male just say you identify as a woman and pay the cheaper cover charge.
Men are charged a higher insurance rate then women just as women are charged higher dry cleaning and salon rates.
But that would fall under gender bias versus racial bias, two different things.
^ misdirection to Jag,the event organizers knew exactly what they were doing but at the cost of others.
Nobody would have known who they were outside of thier circles now the world knows who they are, google could say how many times thier name was searched in the last 72 hours.
Why did they suck COD into the frey? Why not any other city, because everybody knows Detroit.
Pretty screwed up way to become ambitious.
^^^ Yes, those factors do seem to emerge, don't they! Detroit gets the bad publicity once again. DARN!
Somehow hyper-racists schools like U of M still get away with it.
A perfect ACT score is worth like 10 points in their admissions,.. but having brown skin is worth 30 points.
So figure the difference between an average applicant's ACT score being worth 5 and a perfect score being 10,.... having brown skin is worth SIX TIMES as valuable as getting that perfect ACT score.
My children are mixed race,.. and I would NEVER send them there.
Chalk up another win for the "Social Justice Warriors"
That was an in your face example of race baiting.
But what the old style racists of all persuasions ain't caught on to is that the younguns today are being taught by our public schools through the common core themes of social studies.
The Social Justice Warriors are a result of this... [[as an example only)
https://hreusa.org/hre-library/topic.../lesson-plans/
https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...30.E-_TEB0exwQ
Of this phenomenon I can attest. I have witnessed it in my Grandchildren.
My son and I have talked about it when I do some "silly shit" and the kids give me the eye. Even comedy ain't funny no more.
Apples and oranges. If you have a problem with race/gender based Affirmative Action and contract preferences, then take a stand. Someone takes a stand against discrimination don't complain about the results. Chances of you driving to Detroit and attending this are probably slim to none, as they are for me. I'm happy someone did something.
You know what, though? To me this is the fucking point. Thank you for relaying this.
It was a stupid pricing policy to begin with...I'm not overly concerned with the social justice side because, you know, if we just treated others the way we would want to be treated, etc., we wouldn't have these issues or existential discussions about race relations.
At the same time, all sides of race issues are fascinating and give a lot of food for thought because we are all different and have different backgrounds and race just takes a wiper brush to everyone's individual history and experience. And it can be pretty horrible at times. But in the end, most people just want to do the right thing, and something stupid like this got called out and changed because it was stupid. Yes I'm deliberately using an immature term like stupid. It's part of the point.
That's true,.. but it only stopped them for a couple of years. Somehow.
They fought and fought in court,.. and somehow they are able to do it again.
Children are free to go where they like,.. unless they want papa to fork over a couple hundred grand, in which case I get a say.
Because you were totally going to go otherwise, right Dan?
And yes, you're totally used to it. Oh woe is you, the poor oppressed white man. Do tell us about the systemic racism you experience on a daily basis so we can know what it's like to walk a mile in your New Balances. How many times did your neighbors call 911 on you this week because you existed as a white man in public and they felt threatened?
You got a link to support that bullshit lie of yours, Cletus? Because that's exactly what it is. Do tell, how did UofM "fight in court" to bring back Affirmative Action? Was it Schuette v. Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action, the 2014 Michigan Supreme Court case when the court ruled 6-2 to uphold the State's ban on Affirmative Action in college admissions as Constitutional?
There is no Affirmative Action in admissions at UM. It's quite literally illegal. And their rate of African-American representation in their student body has plummeted by almost half as a result, so you got your desired outcome.
I think the intent was honorable. It just got out of hand.
Aj have you ever been employed by an entity that is exempt from title VII of the civil Rights act of 1964. I am. 20 yrs so far. Imagine what comes with that.
You and I are at the bottom of the pecking order here.
I'm ok with that. I'm used to it. Nothing new.
When you treat people differently based on their race, that's racism.
Hey, maybe this is just part of their "religious beliefs", just like when a conservative baker refuses to provide goods or services to gay people just because they are gay. Oh let me guess, that's different though.
As for the vague circumstances of your life, I don't know where you work or what you do so I can't comment on that, nor do I particularly care that your life sucks because you made poor choices in life and/or are a jerk and therefore no one particularly likes you.
But hey, if whites are charged $10 too, you're going to go this festival, right? Because this was something that directly affected you and isn't just an excuse for you to play the white male victim card...
Some like expanded definitions of 'public accommodation', in the interest of forcing wider non-discriminatory enforcement.
I personally like the more classic limitation cited elsewhere thread, where its targeted to hotels/motels, restaurants, theatres, shops. Better to let real racists exhibit their misguided behavior.
LOL! Stereotype! Yeah. My daughter, black, wears varied NB's faithfully.
She runs [[even some short marathons), hikes a bit and aerobically exercises. And knows the difference between style/street wear [[store-front Nike's) and shoes for her level of exercise!

The Backlash...
Statement:
Eventbrite said in a statement to CNN they don't "permit events that require attendees to pay different prices based on their protected characteristics such as race or ethnicity."
Further From Article:
The group says its reasoning for doubling ticket prices for white people was because white people have the privilege to attend festivals in "POC populated cities." In other words, the group says, white people can afford tickets to any event in any city, while black and brown people cannot.
"This cycle disproportionately displaces black and brown people from enjoying entertainment in their own communities," the group said on Eventbrite.
FESTIVAL SCRAPS RACE-BASED TICKET PRICES
So, why not just use the lower $10 price for everyone?
Well there's the FREE Concert of Colors this weekend!
Less drama and poli-tricks for all. Hopefully!
Well, one rationale for doubling the price as stated in the Eventbrite article was: ' "white people have the privilege to attend festivals in "POC populated cities." '. Goodness the thread could blow a gasket in a full-out debate on whether all white people are privileged at the varied levels ascribed.
Setting that aside the concerts revenue could have been resolved to some extent with no reference to race whatsoever: Instead of the original $40 charge for a specific race, and $20 for POC, it could have been $30 for all! Now their revenue will be LOWER from the wrangling and damage control.
With FREE negative press for Detroit. Yay...:[[...
At least this whole thing has some people processing/ thinking/ talking and maybe we can see around-the-corner a bit before launching such attempts at redress of prejudice, racism and privilege!!
If your empathy fluctuates by the demographics of the victim or perpetrator then it isn’t truly empathy. These people are racists.

Yes, Good intentions often go awry.
Exclusion meets Inclusion.
Exclusion is definitely not PC anymore.
Defacto segregation meets De Jure desegregation.

If it was income based [[Show your SNAP/EBT or Medicaid Cards) there would have been no problem. Or even residency based [[show proof of address).
^^^ Yep, I could get to that option [[income based). In that option you're providing the option for low income people to enjoy a concert, yet not excluding others based on race.
The race thing just does not work if for no other reason if the races were reversed it would be highly challenged.
I gather now some are saying the organizers, and others are angry that the 'white-supremacists' racists were outraged. But they weren't coming to the event anyway. Goodness......
True. This isn't hidden. It is policy. We seem to accept it as a good thing.
I believe that it mostly doesn't work. IMO, maybe 10% of contracts set-aside for minorities truly benefit minority contractors. When I was in that world, what I mostly saw were companies setup to take advantage of the 'set asides' -- and funnel the cash right back to the cronies. Only in a dream world do set-asides help their intended targets.
I always wonder whether someone like this is sincere and really just wants to help, or is manipulative and publicity-seeking. Hard to tell. Today we celebrate those who fight racism using bigotry. So my guess is that they are sincere.
Doesn't matter. The result remains naive and destructive to their cause.

Sincere in helping or hurting who, and what is the cause? Is $10 going to change the lives of the 47 people that would attend, or hurt the 3 white people that would attend? Have you seen the map of this place? It's in a neighborhood. It looks like a place I might go to a BBQ or graduation party at. I said this was stupid before...in my opinion it's also a complete publicity stunt. And it was clearly effective in garnering publicity. So on second thought, maybe not that stupid...
We libertarians have a bad name these days. Live and let live is a forgotten concept -- everyone seems to be in favor of banning/canceling/control-of-others.
In this case, there's just no reason to care about what absurd things someone does -- unless there is direct harm. Nobody will be harmed by this little event's misguided policy. Let them have their intersectional fun, and leave them alone. Only when this kind of action moves up to 'public accomodations' should we care at all. Otherwise let others fly their fool flag.
Who knows maybe with the legalized weed everybody will get stoned, neked and run through the fields like one big happy family.
Until somebody starts changing admission to the fields according to ......
Racism against whites is by definition impossible .
OTOH, bigotry is equal-opportunity!
Racism is a systemic oppression by a race with power against a race that is oppressed. By that definition, the ticket pricing plan was not racist. It was however bigotry. Blacks cannot be racist because as a race they do not have power over whites.
^^Oh you're one of those people huh? Yeah, man fuck the dictionary. ..
"by definition" that made me laugh
Bullshit definition you have there...

That's spin Wes. That's control the narrative speak.
Way to many forms of racism to simply boil down to one definition.
Prejudice is what you speak of?
Actually, the organizers did; I watched them on TV saying that they were trying to make up for the pay inequity between black and white. I will try to see if I can find a clip of the woman organizer saying it. I think it was on Fox 2: They actually refer to it as the "wealth gap" between black and white:
About 1:10 into the video.
http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/loca...-people-double
Also being the minority or majority are relative terms. If you're speaking about the the country then, yes they are the minority, but in the City of Detroit they are the vast majority. Detroit needs diversity of every kind in every way from ethinical to economical. Whenever I hear black people complain about an area not being as black as it used to be it annoys me. I know it's an unpopular opinion but black people could have made Detroit the first black controlled city and make it a beautiful place to live for everyone and the complete opposite happened.
Are you saying that Detroit is now no longer a black controlled city?
Exactly who, in your opinion, is controlling it now, and are these
newer parties causing a miraculous turnaround now that can be seen,
for example, at the intersection of Seven Mile and Wyoming? What is
the step by step process from the new measures that were in place
to the improvements at Seven Mile and Wyoming?
[[Being just a bit condescending and disingenuous for the sake of
the argument. Am white and a former City of Detroit employee
and am vested in the City of Detroit pension system and have
former coworkers who have sued to obtain payments for major
medical expenses, the City of Detroit not being like Generous
Motors in this particular regard any more. A former City of
Detroit coworker is on the Board of Police Commissioners
and does not agree with deploying facial recognition software
in Detroit at this time.)
[[I disagree with disparate pricing based on race, gender, etc.
It is okay to have separate seating areas with some seats [[say close
to the stage) having a higher price and others [[say to the sides)
having a much, much lower price. It is okay to have a lower price
but sell plenty of shirts, recordings, etc. or to request donations.)
