Americans Want Socialism. Trump Says No
Quote:
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says, “We're not going back to socialism… We don't believe in a centralized planned economy where the government puts restraints on” the billionaire's behavior.
But Americans want more socialism. They want Social Security stabilized and expanded. They want a national health care system that heals people instead of just producing billionaires in the insurance industry. They want banks that support local communities rather than ripping off their clients. They want their food and water to be safe for their children. They want schools that are world-class quality and want their kids to get a college education without being crippled for life by debt. They want mass transportation that’s fast, efficient, and inexpensive to use. They want an air transportation system that’s safe and reasonably priced.
Donald Trump and his rich buddies like Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin want none of these things. The major funder of the GOP, but at the federal and the state level, is the Koch network. And when David Koch ran for VP in 1980, he openly proclaimed that he wanted to end Social Security, privatize Medicare, shutter our public schools, sell off our roads and rivers and rails to the highest bidder to turn into toll roads and profit centers and end regulations that protect us all from pollution coming from Koch Industries smokestacks.

Could Socialized Healthcare Cure Obesity?
Quote:
Socialized healthcare could help end obesity, lung cancer, and addiction. But first we have to get there!
Our healthcare system currently treats addiction like a moral failing rather than a medical problem. The same with obesity. But under a system that puts people before profit, we would see a drastic reduction of stress and fewer people coping with that stress by turning to drugs and overeating.
Do you think socialized healthcare can cure obesity? What else can it cure?

Fighting Inequality: The Most Effective Strategies
Quote:
We all fight inequality, so here are some strategies.
A new study shows that the richest 400 Americans now own more wealth than the bottom 60 percent of us, over 150 million Americans.
This is wealth on the order of the European kings of the 18th century, even worse than it was in the 1920s, which led to the Great Crash.
This massive transfer of wealth from working people to the very rich as the result of Reaganism/Neoliberal policies has not only left half of Americans unable to deal with a $400 expense and destroyed upward mobility for our kids, but is producing a whole spectrum of social ills from teen pregnancies to divorce to suicide to drug addiction.
We need to undo Reaganism's tax cuts and then impose a wealth tax to claw back some of these ill-gotten gains.
This One Policy Can Solve The Immigration Crisis & Strengthen Unions
Quote:
Ronald Reagan overturned a law that made it all but impossible for employers to hire someone in the United States without the right to work here legally [[largely doing this to discredit unions). Overturning Reagan's rule, and putting corporations on the line instead of migrants [[or so called "illegals"), could not just solve the immigration process but help restore our unions too.
Can changing this one policy stop corporations from preying on vulnerable people, strengthen unions and fix our immigration problems?
