Thank you very much. My thoughts exactly. Oladub certainly has an abstract way of painting the picture, accompanied by some "friendly" statistics. I wonder where the economy was exactly when Harding reduced unemployment >7% in two years. Was it just heading into the $hitter, or on it's way out? Kind of pertinent IMO.Quote:
Oladub: Harding did much better turning a worse economy around in 1921 by doing almost nothing which succeeded in getting debts liquidated. After two years, unemployment went from 11.1% to 3.8% under Harding compared with going from 5.7% to 9.6% under Obama. Under Obama, the debts are yet to be liquidated. He only shifted them to taxpayers.

Wow! A little light research turns up that Warren Harding was sworn into office at the beginning of the Roaring Twenties. What a miracle! Probably the greatest time to be an American if you died in 1929. Bravo Oladub! Your spin cycle is on overdrive.
Here's another soundbyte from Harding's wiki page:
What a hero! What is most interesting during Harding's administration is that the top earners in the U.S. <$1,000,000+> "enjoyed" a measley 73% tax rate. My cat could run an effective Gov't with that much $$$ coming in from America's elite.Quote:
President Harding rewarded friends and political contributors with powerful monetary positions; scandals and corruption eventually pervaded his administration.

I could make the Detroit Lions look like Superbowl favorites with "friendly" statistics. It's definitely possible, but certainly deceitful. Also, the comment on why are we still at war in Iraq & Afghan if Obama evidently had his way with congress for the first two years is simply silly. Like Maxx said, you don't just pull up and leave. It's a little more complicated than that.
No offense to the ultra rich........ but you guys are the ones who will have to bail our country out of the funk you orchestrated in the first place during the "Great American Heist". The tax rates enjoyed today by the super-duper out-of-sight rich are simply unheard of. All it does is foster greed and hate. And by holding the country hostage with fear mongering, lobbying and corporatism - you effectively create "tenure" for this way of life. Obama could be a little bit more aggresive, but the Repubs are so F'ing stingy in their ways, and hung up on what's not important. Sad to say, I have soul searched for reasons and ways to identify with the Republican party like much of my family already does. In the end there is just that much less to hate about the Liberal ways of governing.
BTW - If keeping taxes low is what is best for creating jobs, where the fock are all the god damn jobs.......... because <epihany> taxes are and have been low for a long time. Seems to me that since Reagan's tax structure "took office" we have seen more jobs than ever sail off to far away regions.
This concludes my rougue Non-Detroit rant. Shields up.
Disclaimer: I am in no way insinuating that Obama has done a tremendous job while in office. Nor do I declare myself a staunch liberal. Just another person very confused on how we live our lives here in the U.S.A.
