My 15 minute [[door to door) carmute averages 50 minutes by bike, including any clothes-changing. Add ten minutes in winter. You'd be surprised how much cartime is spent at lights and parking.
None of the above are 'the' answer by any means, just a sample. Bike guys argue endlessly over all of this. With a good route, riding is a near-zero-stress commute with a cardio bonus. A 'complete streets' mentality in our roadbuilding would give more people the chance to have a good route.
