Woodward Avenue is, after all, the first paved highway in America and should be part of this celebration of the automobile, but it is no longer one day and it is not confined to just Woodward.
Last year I planned ahead, or so I thought, and took I-75 home from work. Shoulda been simple . . .I-75N to I-696W exit at Bermuda/Mohawk and double back to southbound Hilton. No problem, right? Wrong! Cops had all the exits to I-696 closed all the way to Evergreen. [[This was around 11pm, I'm sure they couldn't do this all day.) While I am not quite as bitter and angry as I was that day, I can still remember the sound of the blood rushing to my head and through my ears. Though I have never been a big booster of the event I was tolerant and understanding until that day.
I tried to go to the Kroger at 13 and Woodward yesterday [[Monday 8/16) at 2pm. FOR GET IT!! They were everywhere. No parking. And it's not just there. All along Woodward people have these old cars backed in, hoods up, and they sit in folding chairs in front of them, drinking something. It's Tuesday. Dream Cruise is Saturday. WTF!
