Being a Law Officer in America is a bit like being in the movie Hurt Locker, where one has to go around defusing bombs--the bombs, in this case, being mentally unstable people who, this being America, are armed. Officer Doss was the victim of one of those bombs going off.

Being a law officer in America is a thankless job. Officers have to have some medical knowledge, legal knowledge, psychiatry knowledge in order to know in a split second if the person they are dealing with is mentally unstable or is he/she on their meds, or did he/she just have a bad day.The Officer has to know when to use proper verbal skills to calm someone down; he has to know when it may be necessary to taser someone if talking isn't working with a combatant person; and he has to know when to shoot a person when everything else fails. Bottom line, the Officer has to know this within a millisecond.
The person who murdered Officer Goss, in my humble opinion, would have had a weapon, whether it was legal or illegal to have one in our country. There will always be the "bombs" in America and it's not America's fault. As I have said and will continue to say...it's time for people to take responsibility for their own actions and face the consequences. If a person is mentally unable to do so, then those who care for them are.
