I've also seen multiple figures for the height of the old JL Hudson tower, everything from 397 to 418 feet. The latter figure was given in the 9/18/27 Free Press article announcing the project.

So, has his name been released yet? Also, what was he charged with? That Freep article gave us nothing.
Disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
Las Vegas man gets disorderly conduct ticket for scaling Renaissance Center in Detroit
Which should be Criminal Trespass and something regarding endangering public safety members.
It could be a former DPD motorcycle officer completing his bucket list, next report will be him streaking across the ambassador bridge.
Detroit was the closest city with a tall building? Why come all the way from Las Vegas to climb a building? I am thinking somebody ran across some old photos of a wedding shoot that happened on top of a building in Detroit and thought it was cool to go there and do stupid stuff and he would be rewarded with little or no repercussions.
Lots of un answered questions.
Who knows the specifics of why this man did what he did. As to your question about the tallest building: well, within the state of Michigan the Renaissance Center [its original name as built during Mayor Coleman A. Young's era] is our tallest building! Specifically the mid-top tower.

^ it say 727 feet to the roof,The Strat in Las Vegas is 1,149 foot although it appears to have a bit of a slick surface in the pictures.
There is a guy in Las Vegas that has been arrested several times that in social media calls himself a urban climber Spider-Man,arrested for protesting mask mandates, abortion, and just about anything else, they may not be releasing his name so it does not give him notoriety and Las Vegas may have a multi strike punishment policy where he has used up his 9 lives and decided to migrate elsewhere.
Speculation there.
Yesterday, our officers faced another unique challenge…this time being an #UrbanClimber ascending 60+ floors. This reckless act is extremely dangerous & very illegal. That’s why our team was ready to rescue & arrest the suspect. + = + + #LVMPD#Vegas#cops#yikes

I don't know 100% for sure, but if you're scouting out landmark skyscrapers for climbing, the Ren Cen makes sense. Most skyscrapers have pretty flat facades, but the Ren Cen has a metal lattice attached to the facade that is very climbable. It's even more climbable than Salesforce Tower which has a similar facade.
ahhhh could be he was an amateur and picked something non challenging, they have these suction cup things that you attach to your hands and feet and you can scale any building that is non porous materials.
Unless of course the window washing guy used a silicone based anti spotting agent which would make for a long slide down from 30 stories up.
We redid a historic hotel and the insurance company required bars on the upper 10 level widows to prevent people from jumping out,I can see them now charging rates based on your skyscrapers climbing scale of ease.
