Alcamo's market on Schaefer in Dearborn is pretty good, IMO, but I'm not a sub person. [[well, maybe to some on this forum I am)

Vinnie's on Michigan Ave. west of Hagerty are great.
Yes, Dan's is still open. I live in Farmington Hills and drive by it all the time, but have never tried them yet.
There used to be a place in Clinton Twp...on 15 Mile just east of Gratiot...Terry's Subs, I think. They had really good subs too with excellent Italian bread. Is that still open, anybody?

Bommaritos Bakery on Mack ave, between 8 and 9 mile road. Are as good or better than, Gonellas.
Another vote for Ventimiglia's. The hot peppers are awesome. They will even make a sub out of a loaf of bread.
Bommaritos is very good too. Old school Italian bakery with lots of cookies too.
Gonna have to try some of the other popular places mentioned.
I'll have to go with Ventimiglia's also. Italian sub on hard roll with a side of hot peppers. Plus get a bag of better made bbq chips. Its good for 2 meals.
anitas pizzaria makes some good subs. southgate, east of 75 on northline rd. the large subs are on a crunchy bread which is really nice. the small subs arent on the good bread, dont bother.
dans giant subs in farmington is still open. but their subs arent 'giant' [[slightly larger than a hot dog bun). they subs is good, but not great.
i've had a ton of just "ok" subs. need to find some great subs. i'll check out some of the subs that were recommended, thanks everyone!
jimmy johns fails my smell test. walk in, no food smell, walk out.
subway has a nasty funk to its stores now, i avoid them.
there used to be moys chinese cafe in farmington on gr river. they had 'chinese food on a roll'. that was interesting. but someone bought it out and didnt care to carry on that tradition. not sure if its even open anymore.
pastry house hippo in novi is a japanese bakery and has some type of japanese sub things. not really my liking.
prince valiant supermarcado 1 mile east of livernois on michigan has a taqueria. they have those mexican sandwhiches like a sub. i forgot the name of them now. melt in your mouth slow cooked pork.
surprised no one has mentioned where the best pulled pork sandwhich is?
are there any good poboy places around? used to be awesome one in pontiac but its gone.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Po'_boy
"A po' boy [[also po-boy, po boy, or poor boy) is a traditional submarine sandwich from Louisiana."
damn, just made myself hungry again.
Ventimiglia had no flavor, i'm eating one now. no onions? meat tastes like boloney.
Gonellas [[the detroit one) wins this round.
I can only back up what others have mentioned. Gonella's, Dearborn or Detroit location is the best. Sylvia's has great steak and cheese, and Joey's cheese steaks in Southgate are authentic and good.
Nobody mentioned La Penguina deli on Greenfield in Dearborn, also very good.
Gonella's is amazing. You beat me to the punch, Signman. I had their 18 layer Italian one time. I thought I was gonna die, but it would've been worth it. Now I stick with 12 layers. Also, Ricky's in Dearborn is excellent and the subs are huge. La Penguina is more of a deli and has some good deli sandwiches, but their subs don't rank that high on my list.

There is a difference between the subs at the Gonella's in SW Detroit and the one in Dearborn. The Gonella family sold the store in SW Detroit years ago. The son opened the shop in Dearborn and still owns it. Both have great subs but I give the nod to the Dearborn shop
If you ever go North [[Saginaw) Big John's , the local chain and their Holland Ave store are to die for. I've had some at the other chain stores and they are not prepared the same way. Big John's Holland Ave [[Exit 149B, go west just past 1st traffic light on left. They offer plain-Jane steak-onion-cheese with a few options, however they water in your mouth.
It's not gourmet but I really like Bellacino's subs with the ground sausage mixed in... their 'Famous' I think. I go to the one in east Dearborn on Ford Rd at Greenfield strip mall with the Target.
