Violent crime rises in Metro Detroit, bucking national trend

Detroit and some of its neighboring communities are battling rising crime rates, despite a third consecutive nationwide decline in violent crime, according to final 2009 statistics released by the FBI today.
The violent crime rate in Detroit, which measures murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, rose over 2 percent from 2008 to 2009, to nearly 2,000 for every 100,000 people in the city. The murder also climbed to 40 per 100,000, up from 34.

It is likely he was busy that day arresting nickel and dime bag sellers so he could pad his resume and his pocket with a skim off the proceeds from drug forfeitures.

Without insider info it's impossible to know if this is a true reflection of increased crime rates or just a correction caused by more honest stat reporting than done previously.

Warren Evans was Chief of the Detroit Police Department from July 5, 2009 until July 21, 2010.

OMG....Violent crime on the rise in a city that has double digit unemployement and more problems than Iraq.....Really? I am shocked!!!

This should not be headline news.

With church and government being Detroit's two main enterprises, where does murder fit in?
