David Klein Gallery to open a new Detroit location

SEPT 17 - Thursday 6-9 - Klein Gallery Premiere
The nationally-known David Klein Gallery for contemporary art in Birmingham is planing a second and much-larger location next year for downtown Detroit.
The Detroit gallery would open in February on the ground floor of the Claridge House Apartments at 1520 Washington Blvd, just south of Grand Circus Park
.
The new 4,000-square-foot space is envisioned to become the gallery's flagship location, with room for more elaborate showings and programs and a larger inventory of art. The Birmingham location at 163 Townsend will stay open and continue to show both modern and contemporary art.
"It has been a lifelong dream to open a gallery in downtown Detroit," David Klein, 48, said Tuesday. "Our new space will be ideal for exhibiting large-scale contemporary projects. I think our artists will be inspired."

Don't know anything about art, but it sound another nice addition for downtown.

Anyway... The Downtown Detroit momentum rolls on. The Detroit Free Press reports "The new 4,000-square-foot space is envisioned to become the gallery's flagship location..."
For perspective, the Claridge is the Building on the right, just down the street from the soon to open restored Whitney Building.

David Klein started this successful gallery in his 20's and shows many significant Detroit Artists. He now joins George N'namdi in a downtown/midtown move. N'namdi long ago ended his Birmingham presence. It would appear that Birmingham's star in the Detroit art scene is fading.
