Ex-Presidents, After Washington

I thought this would be an interesting topic.

What are some of the great accomplishments of presidents after leaving The White House.

I'll start with Jimmy Carter, who, after leaving Washington, has been one of the most active ex-presidents in recent years.

His labor of love with Habitat for Humanity[[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habitat_for_Humanity) , is one of many accomplishments in his post-presidency, second only to his "elder statesmanship with many crisis, such as the Israeli/ Palestinian conflict:

He "72" is a great example of the good his works.. life offeres him a great chance at helping other...Bush Senior and Clinton are doing well too...

Yes, Bush the Elder and Clinton have become good friends, joining in the same causes, since they left... its funny how supposed "enemies" have embraced each other in their post-Washington years.

I wonder, who are other strange bed-fellows, besides Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson?[[do you see a shadow government?)

And also died on the floor, during session, of the House of Representatives.

I guess that would be the best way to go out ...fighting injustice...thanks for sharing...didn't know...really not many got invloved in outside causes...now Elenore Roosevelt [[as a first lady did; but that would be another area) did a great deal to combat racism...

I never thought about the spelling, as I've always thought of you as GibRan, and now, upon further reflection, see your name as Ghee Brawn, whats the correct pronunciation?

William Howard Taft, he of the "first bathtub in the Whitehouse" fame, served on the U. S. Supreme Court after his single term of office. He also served in peace-seeking positions in the years between his presidency and his justiceship.

The Adams, Jr. and Sr., are my cousins. No, I never met them, you jokers.

Millard Fillmore - was one of the founders of the University of Buffalo. The school was chartered by an act of the New York State Legislature on May 11, 1846, and at first was only a medical school.Fillmore was the first Chancellor, a position he maintained while both Vice President and President. Upon completing his presidency, Fillmore returned to Buffalo, where he continued to serve as chancellor.

Plus, Fillmore helped found the Buffalo Historical Society [[now the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society) in 1862 and served as its first president.

I always thought it was incredibly interesting that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4, 1826, exactly 50 years after they signed the declaration of Independance. Sounds like the ending to some movie.

They were also fierce political adversaries who later became good friends.

Jefferson founded one of the nation's great public universities, the University of Virginia, after his presidency. After most of the collections of the Library of Congress were destroyed in the War of 1812, Jefferson sold his 6500 volume personal collection to re-establish the Library.

I think not, since the right has been reduced to a fringe-right party, very much out of touch with the mainstream of America.

They rally their flag around fools like Sammy[[Joe) the Dumber, and Sara[[do as I say, not as I preach) Palin, and Mikey[[I hate anyone who doesn't conform to my narrow minded beliefs) Savage.

Meanwhile, Olberman keeps the Democrats feet to the fire, making sure they stay true to their cause.

Dwight D. Eisenhower retired to the place where he and his wife, Mamie had spent much of their post-war time, a working farm adjacent to the battlefield at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In 1967, the Eisenhowers donated the farm to the National Park Service and since 1980 it has been open to the public as the Eisenhower National Historic Site. In retirement, he did not completely retreat from political life; he spoke at the 1964 Republican National Convention and appeared with Barry Goldwater in a Republican campaign commercial from Gettysburg.

So, tell us, Bats, did Clinton "bed scores of women" because he is a Democrat, or because he is personally reprehensible?

If you believe he did that because he is a Democrat, you are guilty of lumpng all Democrats together, as if to say that only socialist, collectivist Democrats could do those sorts of things.

On the other hand, if you believe that, regardless of party affiliation, Clinton is personally reprehensible and only a person who has those kinds of morals could do those things, then we must allow John McCain to join his fraternity since he, too, was a philanderer of the first order. For that matter, include Ronald Reagan and Dwight Eisenhower. They also had their proclivities in regard to marital fidelity.

The thread is about the things that former Presidents accomplished for the good and welfare of the public. You got a problem with that?

I have no problem with the premise of the thread. When Clinton comes under scrutiny, no "accomplishments" of this sort are apparent, so....onto examine what he has done.

Your translation is woefully lacking.

It means, in a nutshell, you revert to a 2 wrongs make a right ploy for McCain [[who lost, so it is an invalid premise, besides being weak reasoning). Clinton's womanizing comes from a lack of individual character, and often that follows a lack of core values [[Democrat's defined). Lastly, Clinton's accomplishments have been negative.
