ooooohh those great big socialists will be marching into our streetss...run folks I see a swede
Some people have too much time on their hands....
I have a Canadian cousin who takes vacations in Cuba. While having his car repaired in Florida, he had a conversation with a lady lamenting her difficulty of getting things to her mother in Havana. My cousin offered to make a delivery since he was about to go to Cuba. The parcel he delivered was stocked with over the counter medicines like asperin which are hard to come by for Cuban residents. He has made two deliveries now and the lady in Florida, and he says, everyone in the car repair place treats him royally now.
Castro has done a good job of improving health care in Cuba but it is not quite as good as projected by his American friends on the left. Tourists are treated to a different level of medicine than regular Cubans. It is a two tiered medical system. Maybe the lack of fast foods and obesity as well as walking also contribute to good health in Cuba.
The oddest thing in the article was the statement, "Cuba provides free health care and education to all its citizens, and heavily subsidizes food, housing, utilities and transportation, policies that have earned it global praise. " How many people here are envious of Cuban food, housing, utilities, or transportation? The Soviet Union also subsidized all those things and also had housing shortages, empty shelves, and unworkable plumbing.
Castro's comment, "It is really incredible that 234 years after the Declaration of Independence ... the government of that country has approved medical attention for the majority of its citizens, something that Cuba was able to do half a century ago", might indicate that either he hasn't read the Declaration of Independence or is going senile. The Declaration says that governments are instituted solely to secure our rights and "that whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government." Had Castro read the text, he would realize that it our right and duty to replace everyone who voted for this bill.
Yes, that is the most dimwitted statement in that article. Leaves you scratching your head. Castro doesn't understand the concept of freedom and liberty nor does he understand a representative system of government. Not unusual, considering that he considers himself the savior of his people [[sound familiar?)
I feel a lot more comfortable now knowing that Castro approves of how our country is being run.
Does this mean we'll all get to drive around in cars from the 1950s? ;)
That is both hilarious and pitiful at the same time. :)
I probably would have waited to get Caesar Chavez, Kim Jong Il and Abedinnerjacket's take on the Obama Health Care Bill.... before trying to make a meal out of this morsel....
Funny how anything Castro remotely says is suddently taken seriously when it suits some people's agenda... that too speaks volumes...:D
I too am waiting for what Ceasar Chavez has to say about the insurance reform bill, especially since he's been dead for so long.
Not to intrude on your little tea party, but any guesses where the US and Cuba rate in terms of medical care? Infant mortality rates?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...mortality_rate
http://www.amazon.com/Healing-Masses.../dp/0520082982
Cuba is a dictatorship, Castro is a dictator. However, the facts are clear. Astronomically excellent literacy rates, universal health care, a healthy aging population and excellent infant mortality rates.
When was the last time a boatload of American refugees washed up on the shores of Cuba?
when was the last time a person needing health care in those countries with universal care died for a lack of care/directly related to not getting services? Or to put it this way...how many people that believe in the pursuit of life , liberty and happiness can do it if your are battling for your life with a disease that if caught earlier could have been eradicated? or next time you take a vaccine for polio...you remember the reality of the universality of vaccine programs...
I wonder if Obummer will hire Castro as a spokesperson to help him out while he is currently still trying to sell it to [[brainwash) the American people? [[Isn't that a laugh? Obummer's out there defending himself across the country because he knows people are up in arms about him and his personal self-glorifying agenda). Interesting that there are folks who seem to be very pleased and impressed by Castro's endorsement of ObummerCare.
More to the point, when was the last time the US loaded up boats full of criminals, sent them to Cuba, who then built them luxurious apartment buildings in some cuban version of Brighton Beach and provided start up capital for restaurants in Havanah and allowed them to set up criminal organizations that far outdid the mafia in terms of brutality?
I am so glad that you humanitarians have never had to tell a TBI patient that we can't he;p you because you have no funds in your insurance plan for cognitive therapy or independent living skills...that instead you have to go to a nursing home instead or to jail when you get mislabeled by the law enforcers because a frontal lobe injury has left you difficult to handle...even though you are twenty....
or tell a single parent working two jobs to ignore that pain in your uterus...until it gets so bad that you end up in the Er and find out if you would have treated it earlier..you wouldn't need a operation at twenty seven that will render you unable to have more children....
or how about a person working in the fields picking your vegetables, breaks a foot ...but can't get care because he is an immigrant...so he buys bigger shoes, until all the sizes available are used up...is finally convinced to get help...and the result was an amputation....that our current system folks...so live with the changes.... or you can super glue fake teeth in your mouths til you can return to a third world country to get dental care....
Ripley's believe or not stories....
Wow, look at all the people coming here trying to defend [[or dissipate the significance of) Castro's endorsement of Obamacare.
bull...if it good for people....it's good for America....
funny it is always those that have things who are reluctant to give things up than those who don't aren't...but when those who had it lose it they want it back...and those who didnt have it understand what it was like ...and have no problem extending it to others if they get it...[[this is a crude...generalization)
