"At least 400 people jammed the union hall Wednesday evening for the first public meeting required by the ordinance. There were so many that a lot were turned away and a followup meeting scheduled the next evening, with other meetings scheduled in the weeks ahead.
"The sometimes raucous meeting Wednesday highlighted anew the perennial question of who gets to decide the fate of major development deals. Chrysler and UAW officials were quick to say that many of those temps live in the city, and Chrysler promised to open a recruitment office in the immediate neighborhood. And they noted that there will be multiple spin-off jobs for each plant worker.
