Los Angeles, for at least the last decade, has been known as the car chase capital of the world. In reading the News and Freep the last few days, all I see is stories about police chases in the metro Detroit area -- two, today alone.
Perhaps the only thing inhibiting Detroit police chase publicity is that the news gatherers in LA have many more helicopters than Detroit.

Won't happen. Too many more people in LA, plus many more miles of roads.
I think it has to do with how they are covered. In Los Angeles ever since the era when the OJ Simpsons "chase" was a ratings bonanza the local news their has covered them intensely. Here, police pursuits aren't covered by the local media, and therefore don't get as much attention.
Actually, highspeed highway chases [[and highspeed highway shoot-outs) are a mostly LA area phenomenon, and it does have to do with how the city developed [[the sheer size and amount of its freeways) and its culture. LA really does have a freeway culture unlike any other.
