As Foreign Policy put it in a headline, “In one fell swoop, the candor of the cables released by WikiLeaks did more for Arab democracy than decades of backstage U.S. diplomacy.” The cables suggested, among other things, that the U.S. was not going to back Tunisian dictator Ben Ali to the bitter end, and that the regime’s corruption was common knowledge.

Definitely so maxx. Ditto for the power of the internet in helping to imagine other alternatives and cellphones to organise their campaigns. It was hard to imagine Russia and China's revolutionary aboutfaces a generation ago, but look what happens now. I hope a substantial part of the arab world gets democratic leadership so that others will follow. But I think even a country as small as Tunisia could show the way...
