SAD UPDATE: The Queen of Soul has passed
A publicist for Aretha Franklin says the Queen of Soul died Thursday at her home in Detroit.
Franklin, 76, was hospice care in her Detroit home, sources have told multiple media outlets.
People prayed before dawn Wednesday at a vigil at New Bethel Baptist Church, the Detroit church once led by the singer's late father, the nationally renowned pastor and civil rights activist the Rev. C.L. Franklin.
Thoughts and prayers for the Queen of Soul and Detroit legend Aretha Franklin.
"This follows an earlier report from Roger Friedman's Showbiz 411:
"The Queen of Soul, who turned 76 in March, is surrounded by "family and people close to her" in Detroit.
"In March, Franklin canceled two concerts scheduled in New Jersey.
"Franklin's most recent performance was Nov. 2, 2017 at the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York and her final public performance was at Philadelphia’s Mann Center in August 2017."
One of my favorites, Aretha at 14 in her father's church.
