Ramp metering with traffic lights

Ramp metering with traffic lights begins this week along I-96 in Oakland County

A second, different video with the same title:
Ramp metering with traffic lights begins this week along I-96 in Oakland County

Drivers getting onto I-96 between Novi and Milford roads in Oakland County will encounter a new traffic flow system – ramp metering.
It's a way of rationing freeway access by backing up congestion onto surface streets.

Has this ever been tried before in the Detroit metro area? I encountered it in Phoenix long ago. In a way it makes sense but in practice it feels silly to stop just so you can go.

MDOT reduces lanes on I-375 boulevard plans after community feedback

The Michigan Department of Transportation’s plans to fill in the milelong sunken Interstate 375 highway in downtown Detroit and replace it with a street-level road now call for a four-lane boulevard with two lanes in each direction, a reduction from the six-lane boulevard previously planned.
The updated I-375 plans were shared at a community engagement meeting Thursday evening in The Eastern, an event space in Detroit’s Eastern Market. MDOT also shared details about the construction process, which will begin in late summer and run through 2029, starting at the southern end of the corridor and working north. The planned four-lane boulevard will run from Jefferson Avenue to I-75 and have extra turn lanes at intersections. The reduction in lanes was based on public feedback, according to MDOT representative Rob Morosi, who said a six-lane boulevard would have been “a little too much to cross for pedestrians.”

The changes come after a traffic study that left MDOT “confident that two lanes will be able to handle” the volume of traffic traveling the corridor, according to Morosi.

Detroit's Next Mayor, Worried Yet?

Articles like this one in the Freep today remind me how much better we have it under Duggan than most cities. He has staked out a very moderate position focusing on the benefit and growth of the cith rather than toeing the Democratic party line and bowing to the outrage mob. I am deeply concered about who will replace him and what their policies will be.

Last thing we need is a Mayor visiting Africa, even if the city's NOT burning to the ground...

Herman Kiefer developer puts St. Stanislaus up for sale

You can have it for $600K. Not sure if it includes the rectory but I'd bet he'd be happy to throw it in, if so. It's been in sad shape for years as these older photos of mine show.

I'm beginning to wonder if the Free Press didn't misspell the owner's name, Castellano, when it might have been Kefallinos ;).

The "Wrecktory"
Attachment 43556

"St. Stanislaus was purchased for $150,000 in 2015 by New York developer and architect Ron Castellano.

"Castellano has been in the crosshairs of City Hall since last year, when officials say he fell out of compliance with a development agreement for the sprawling 38-acre Herman Kiefer campus by missing key milestones, including activating at least 35% of the still-vacant property.

"Castellano then missed a June 4 deadline for handing back ownership of campus property to the city. City officials have yet to say what recourse they plan to take.
