 During those years a community complex was progressively developed to the west of the fort and included houses for officers and non-coms, a quartermaster's warehouse, a guard house, a headquarters building, stables, and a theater.

FORT WAYNE

The first structure one encounters from the west gate is the ruins of the fort hospital. Beginning with the Civil War, Fort Wayne was continuously staffed by the U.S. Army as a regular army post until 1940.
