The
opening of the new Bonny Brook Kmart inevitably lead to the abandonment of
another Kmart, about a mile away, on 8 Mile in Southfield.
Southfield, along with Oak Park, do not carry the same stigma of
segregation as other 8 Mile communities as each has substantial Afro American
populations. However segregation along class and income line exists as
both have become destinations for middle class Afro American Detroiter migrants.
