Built in the 1870's as the Eastern Michigan Asylum and later renamed Pontiac Hospital this sprawling complex covered 500 acres and housed as many as 3,100 mentally ill patients by the 1950's.

THE DEMISE OF PONTIAC STATE HOSPITAL

Once the foremost mental health institution in Michigan, the Pontiac State Hospital, aka the Clinton Valley Center was closed in 1997 and demolished in 2000.
