Buoy tenders dock at the Coast Guard Station in Detroit.  In the background is the restored Light House Service Building and one of the new luxury Riverfront Apartments that have sprung up nearby.

Lighthouse Service Building

The recently restored Detroit Lighthouse Service Building stands behind the still active Coast Guard Station at the foot of Mt. Elliot in Detroit.

The Light House Service was merged into the Coast Guard at the outset of World War II. While there are no longer lighthouses to service, the facility continues its long time task of laying buoys for the shipping lanes in the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair.
