With success came luxury. Berry Gordy bought this mansion on nearby Boston Avenue at Hamilton and then moved to LA.

What Berry Gordy created, Berry Gordy took away.  In search of even greater riches he migrated Motown Recording to the ultimate mass media entertainment capitol, Los Angeles.

Gone with it was the Motown spirit, and its rags to riches stories of kids rising from the tough streets of Detroit to international fame. Others contend that the Motown "thing" had run its course.
