Lee
Plaza
The
story of Lee Plaza is typical of the grand buildings of Grand
Boulevard and, indeed, all Detroit. It rises from a demand
for luxury living in exclusive areas. In time the spirit
of the chic moves on and a slow decline ensues. Rents and
occupancy fall until they are insufficient for maintenance.
Often,
as in the case of Lee Plaza, they eventually bankrupt
and then briefly reprise themselves as a senior citizen apartment
or some other specialty purpose.
