A handicap ramp leading to the bricked up entrance to of Lee Plaza is a relic of its final days as a senior citizen apartment.

Lee Plaza

The story of Lee Plaza is typical of the grand buildings of Grand Boulevard and, indeed, all Detroit. It rises from a demand for luxury living in exclusive areas.  In time the spirit of the chic moves on and a slow decline ensues. Rents and occupancy fall until they are insufficient for maintenance.

Often, as in the case of  Lee Plaza, they eventually bankrupt and then briefly reprise themselves as a senior citizen apartment or some other specialty purpose.
