The United Artists Theater in Downtown Detroit once formed a part of a nucleus of fabulous movie theaters that included Michigan, Adams, Fine Art, State, Fox, Madison, Telenews and Capitol.  Today only the Fox, Capitol [now the Detroit Opera Theater], State, and Telenews [Bleu - an Electronic Music Club] continue to function as entertainment venues.

The United Artists looks out onto Grand Circus Park.  On the lot to its right once stood the Tuller Hotel.  The lower building in the center background is the Fine Arts Theater Building, also abandoned with future in question.

Below: The Detroit People Mover passes the United Artists Building in 2004 competing for attention with the graffiti covered windows.  The graffiti was removed during the preparations for the 2006 Super Bowl.

Seen from the Corner of Washington Blvd. and Grand Circus Park in late 2006 the United Artists Building brandishes giant signs advertising its "opportunities".   Part of the smoke and mirrors surrounding the Super Bowl was to give long abandoned buildings the appearance of progress.  The bare lot in the foreground is the site of the former Statler Hotel.
